Install Issues

I’m trying to install Avast right now on my computer XP SP3. I’ve got more than enough space and have uninstalled other virus software. When I run the setup file it downloads the english setup pack, then just disappears. No trace of it running, nothing is installed it just goes away. I can not find any information on this and have never had problems like this before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

ohh and I’ve also tried to install in safe mode with just networking, same thing happened

Hi lxdawg25,

Which av did you have before?
How did you uninstall it?
It may be necessary to use the relevant uninstall tool.

Which avast! setup file did you download? (and from where?)
It sounds like the ‘universal setup file’

Try downloading directly from the avast! web site, scroll down and choose the english setup file (not the universal setup file)

Scott,

I had some program called etrust ITM (i think that’s what it was called) and it uninstalled pretty easily.

I used both the universal installer from Cnet and the setupeng directly from avast and they both did the same thing in the end, the little scroll bar with the file icons opens up moves for a bit and then goes away. With the universal install it will sit there saying downloading for a bit longer but then that goes away. and nothing else happens it’s like it’s closing itself.

Is etrust part of CA antivirus?
(this is where I reach with google)

You could try the removal tool on this page, then try to install avast!:

CA is the last one…

I had to do a system restore on my pc (sp3 xp) and registration key will not work again. Suggestions?

Hello

Please can you start a new topic as your problem is unrelated to the original poster’s and will cause some confusion.

Thanks,

apparently I had a DNS changing trojan and removing that seemed to make all the difference, thank you for the help, and I’m so glad to have avast on here now

Glad it is sorted, even if I didn’t quite help…

Another problem related to the on-line installer of CNET… Man, it giving more headaches than we can imagine…

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who has trouble with CNET! >:(
