Install of Avast unsuccessful - spawning error

I was not able to download the latest version of avast due to error 0 - “spawning”. What does it mean? Also I cannot update My current version and the error I get is cannot find server. I do have a virus on my computer that is preventing me from updating or adding anti-virus definitions including avast, webroot and others. How can I circumvent that?
