Installation Files

Good Day,

I am new to your site and have a question on the downloads

On this web page:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

There is the setup file ( English) 33meg
and there is also the frist file of only 300kB (Universal Installation File)

When I click on either of those 2 items I downloaded, it brings me to the intial setup screen. What is the purpose of this smaller Universal Installation File? Do I just install the anti virus from the larger 33 meg file?

Hello Cubbettee,

I think the bigger file also contains the most recent virus database and the smaller one is just the installer (it will download the datbase when installing)
It doesn’t really matter which one you download, you will have the same result.

also the bigger file allows for an easier install on a system not connected to the Internet

I think this is roughly right, but I could be wrong (in that case a correction would be appreciated)

The smaller one requires you be on line as it will run a setup to download and install avast.

Personally I would go for the complete setupeng.exe file and save it to your hard disk. Use that to install off-line and keep the copy if you have to install for any reason you have a copy already.

Its a great idea for the guy that got a bad internet so they can download faster the file i think
