Installation Needs for Small SBS2003 Network

Hello,

Just curious, but I am not finding all of the bits and pieces of information to make the right decision out of the gate here.

I have a smaller network customer with a server and 5 onsite clients…they also connect 2 or 3 roaming machines with ts and remote web workplace.

The SBS Suite product appears to be the right choice. I have downloaded it and installed on the server.

Is this only the server component? Do I need to download and install the standard professional client on all of the other machines?

I have also seen the managed network product the ADNM…is it worth messing with this for only 5 clients? Is that a separate download piece as well?

A good howto for installing the networked versions of these things would be well received…if such a thing exists on the site, I haven’t found it yet.

Thanks in adance-

John

Hi John,

SBS Suite is indeed the ideal choice for you. It provides protection for the server and all its components (Exchange, ISA…) as well as for the workstations.

If you buy the SBS suite, you have basically the following two choices:

  • either install the thing separately (manually). - I.e. Avast SBS Edition on the Small Biz Server, and Avast Professional Edition on the workstations

  • or use the ADNM.

If you ask me, I’d go with ADNM because of the extra features (reporting, centralized scheduling etc…). However, this is from my point of view because I know how to use it (i.e. don’t have to learn it).

Maybe it’d be interesting for you to have a look at the ADNM Administrator’s Guide and decide if this stuff is for you or not.

I am also new to this and have downloaded and read the 72 page manual on adnm and am at a total loss. There is no tech person really, just little ol me and I am up to the install package, but have no idea about the domain account, password stuff in order to deploy. Is there an more help available? I would love to use this feature but it is way over my head right now. Thanks Cherri

Cherri, it might be best to contact one of avasts resellers local to you. They maybe able to help with installaton consultancy if it appears to complex.

Regards

J

Thanks for the info. I have deployed without the ADNM for now…I want to play with that on my devolpment network a bit before I do a commercial install with it

So, I have Pro installed on the workstations plus the server version. When I purchase the Suite, will I get all of the necessary keys to license each client and the server?

Thanks,

JH

Yes. You can either use the KEYS and keep the Pro Editions (plus use the license file on the server), or use the license file in ADNM. It’s up to you…

The key is IN the file (it’s a text file that you can view e.g. in Notepad).

Thanks
