Installation Problems - RPC and Chest

Guys,
I am trying the freebie to ensure that all works well, but I have had real problems with the installation. Initially it wouldn’t copmplete, but I got over that (Data directory). Although it completed I get an RPC error from the AAVM subsystem. I tried following the FAQ advice, but avast!Antivirus does not even exist in my Services list so the service doesn’t appear to have been installed. I have tried Repairing but no joy. Also if I run from the right click “start Avast!” option I get an error (Program cannot use Chest client[null]).
If it helps I am running v4.7 (or trying to) on WHS SP2. I attach the Log errors

Aside from the F.A.Q answers, this is probably the most common issue relating to RPC errors.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

The latest version is 4.8.1201, so it would probably be best to uninstall 4.7 and install the latest version before expending any time chasing this down on an old version.

David,

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
Yes. Originally I installed CA Antivirus (eTrust) and uninstalled it using its utility. I have run a registry cleaner to try to remove any leftovers.

I think your advice is good. I will unistall Avast! using both the utility and the newly downloaded cleaner, and then reinstall with the new version which I have just downloaded. I will use the cleaner on any CAdirectories that are left as well.

I have had the same problem. I tried to uninstall but it would not complete successfully. It says a setiface error has occurred:536870929 appears. I can’t repair it either windows says only uninstall and change. whenecer I try to open Avast I get the AAVM subsystem detected RPC error. All this occured after an automatic update. Now I can’t do anything on my computer.

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

    1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that, as you mentioned, start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

It does not work either way. I cannot access any part of Avast. When I try, it says: The procedure entry point
?Get This MessageMap@CXTMask Edit Old@@KGPUAFX_MSGMAP@@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library XT1922.dll. Splash screen has stopped working. Closes program.

All this started beacuse of a program update. I noticed the on access protection was off. The security center for windows says everythings on, but icon has a red circle with slash. I can’t do anything except come on here. Any time I try to go somewhere on the web. The page does not load. I am left with a white screen and it says done. Please help. I need the net to help me search for jobs.

Did you download the uninstall utility and run it from safe mode ?
That is crucial as you can’t use add remove programs or do anything with avast. From safe mode avast doesn’t load so you should be able to run the tool and remove avast, reboot and install from a normal boot.

That’s me for the night almost 3am, hopefully someone in your time zone can pick this up.
