I’ve been using Avast Home Free edition for a few years and have been very impressed with it’s usability and quality. But now I just purchased and downloaded the Prefessional edition, and I’m extremely disappointed with the installation instructions. I do hope that this isn’t an indication of things to come.

The instructions in my email simply say, " To install (once downloaded), double click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions." What instructions??? All I get are questions, which I can not answer. But before I even get to that, I see that the banner on the left says “Avast! Home” I thought I bought Avast Pro! What gives?

Then, the questions: The first screen to come up gives me 4 options: Change, Uninstall, Update or Repair. None of these seem right. Which one should I go with?

Somehow, I feel like I got something entirely different than what I bought. I hope I’m wrong.

Someone please tell me what’s going on here.

The installer is the same for both versions (i think)

I think that all you have to do is insert the license key for the pro version into avast and it will automatically update itself to pro.

I think the email assumes you are using avast for the first time.

That’s what I was thinking, too. But I haven’t come to (or haven’t found) a place where I can do that.

The installer isn’t the same for both but if you already have Home installed, all you have to do is enter the Pro license key and avast! will transform itself to Pro.

Do the email instructions look something like this?

Follow the instructions below for entering your new key into installed
Avast! program:

  1. Start Avast! program and during memory scan press the “Registration”
    button. There will be Registration dialog displayed. You can also find this
    dialog in Simple or Enhanced user interfaces under About program avast! →
    Activation Key
  2. Enter the key. (NOTE: if you are unsure when entering number 0 or letter
    O, enter rather number 0 (zero)!) The best way to enter the license key is
    Cut&Paste method - select entire key in this mail, press Ctrl-C, switch to
    avast! registration dialog and press Ctrl-V. Then press OK button and your
    avast! is registered.

It is recommended to update your virus database via the iAVS service. Just
click on the “flash” icon in Simple user interface or “flash” icon with
iAVS description in Enhanced user interface.

To install the license key:

Right click the avast icon in the tray -->click about avast -->click license key -->enter the key

No, Vladymir, that was not the email I received. The one I got was the same as this, up to the instructions; beyond that, it was completely different. I followed the directions in the email you sent, and it worked (although it took 2 tries).
