Hi there, just upgraded my Avast! Free AV to 6 today, did the required restart etc.
Now however, I cannot connect to the Internet via my browser anymore (I use Firefox). I have no other AVs on my computer, no pesky Norton or anything like that. My firewall is COMODO. I have never had issues of these two conflicting before, and yes my firewall is set to allow Avast and Firefox.
I can still connect through games, Skype, Vent, but not my browser. As you can see by this post, the Internet is working just fine on this laptop (which isn’t running Avast or Comodo).
A couple things; 1. Under my Network Connections my Internet Connection is listed as “Disabled” and attempts to Enable it fail. It will say: “Connecting…Connected.” but still be listed as disabled.
When I went to double check that I hadn’t missed/needed to add any permissions for Avast! to my firewall I found that all of the Avast files I found were for Avast 5, although the UI clearly states I have version 6. Should it not have replaced the Avast 5 files? Is this a problem?
Ive been trying in vain to fix this for hours. I have classes that I need to be online for in the next few days and I do not have constant access to this laptop as it does not belong to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
If after troubleshooting with your FW does not fix your problem, I would suggest doing an Avast uninstall and a clean install to fix your problem. There is a new Avast Uninstaller Tool (link below).
Go to Control Panel and uninstall Avast through Add/Remove Programs if possible and reboot.
If Step 4 fails, boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool. Uninstall all prior versions and products of Avast at this time.
