Installed webcam driver and now Avast! will not run...

Hello All,

I bought a cheapo webcam from an online retailer for messing with creating various effects. It worked fine, then I thought I’d try the driver installation CD. I installed the software and then the software didn’t work, so I removed it, using the uninstall program that it came with.

Reboot the machine, and my Avast! icon in the system tray has a RED X on it, and clicking it, I am greeted with the message that avast! service stopped.

Clicking the Start Program as well as the FIX NOW buttons do NOTHING.

I have run system restore twice in hopes of fixing this problem. the computer works, but avast! does not. I don’t know if I was hijacked or if the driver is just screwed up and if it damaged something that prevents avast! from working.

Any thoughts? I’m not going to surf or email on the affected machine until I can figure this out. (I’m using a different computer at the mo).

JUST ADDED: Avast 5 Pro, purchased 3-computer license. Can’t get details from the avast menu but the download file says it’s Avast 5.0.377.0

so it should work, have the same config…
if it doesnt work and! relates to the uninstall of your cd-proggies…?
try use ccleaner to clean your registry.

Let’s try that again in English since it’s early for me here…

The problem started with the installation of the webcam software.

That software was removed and now avast will not tun. Further, I can not MAKE it run.

What CD programs are you referring to?

What is ccleaner and where can I find it?

Keep in mind, the avast help file is even being blocked. No part of avast is useable.
