installing after factory restore (Dell)

I am going to do a factory restore for my Dell computer and reset everything to the original settings.

Does anyone know whether I will be able to re-install my aVast Professional Edition by clicking on the Avast4 file icon in Explorer (My Computer). Explorer says it has 154 MB and 224 files.

You just download a new Avast copy and insert your license key, you did save it somewhere…did you?

You need to install it again and use the key.
Copying and pasting files and folders won’t work.

Thanks, everyone, for your information . . .

Welcome to the forums, ivory888.

Let us know how it works out for you.

My key is in the License.avastlic file I saved to my esternal HD.

I am supposed to insert my license by double-clicking on the License.avastlic file.

Windows, however, tells me it cannot open this file. And the Microsoft website Web service is unable to tell me how to open it.\

How do I download a new Avast copy?

The permissions on the file are probably not set correctly. Since the hard drive was connected to your computer before you rebuilt it, it had settings for the “old computer”. Now, you need to reset the permissions to give your user on the “new computer” permissions to open the file.

Otherwise, if it really is corrupt and you can’t open it, you can request a replacement key. http://www.avast.com/resend-license.v2.php

Thank you for responding. Do I need to request also a new installation file?

No, you can just download that from the website.

Well, thanks to everyone, I was able to successfully install Avast Internet Pro.

It has already updated itself at two times today according to the woman’s voice that sounds when a small screen comes up at the right side of the monitor.

If someone can say whether it’s necessary for the avast icon to appear as if it’s “turning around,” I would appreciate it.

I feel lucky to have found this forum, which provides timely answers to different questions.

You can turn icon animation off, if your question is about it  It’s on Settings > Basic Settings under Appearance part. And welcome to the forum.

When the avast! icon is “turning around” then avast! is working. 8)
