Installing Avast breaks my computer

Hello!

When I install avast my computer, windows doesn’t start correctly and I have to restore my system completely. What can cause this problem?

Hello and welcome to the Forum!

  • Which OS? (32/64 Bit - which SP)
  • Which avast-version? (Free, Pro, Internet Security, Premier)
  • Which program version (2016.11.1.2245 is the latest)?
  • Other security related software installed?
  • Which AV program was installed before? And how was it uninstalled?

Hi!

  1. Windows 10 64 Bit
  2. Avast Free
  3. It is the latest, 2016 avast.
  4. McAfee
  5. As I said before, I had Mcafee as my AV program because I got a new laptop with this program as a default. I uninstalled it by going to Control Panel and then, Uninstall Programs.

The problem that I have is that when Avast finishes its installation, it doesn’t work and when I restart my laptop, windows doesn’t starts correctly and I have to restore it.

Thanks!

Follow the instructions in my signature to Successfully install Avast.

I had this problem at the end of January - before there were many posts on the topic. Win 7 Avast Free 2015.

After using uninstall tool(s) a number of time and having to restore Windows to previous state a number of times, just gave up. Updating Avast shouldn’t be so hard. Have installed alternative.

I’ve also, since then, manually deleted all Avast references in the Registry, but can’t be sure that all Avast-related files on my computer have been deleted.

If I could find a tool that would guarantee to clean every such file, or a list so I can delete manually, I’d be tempted, when time permits, to re-install Avast, which I’ve enjoyed for years.

The instructions I’ve seen via this forum fall short of this, so, for now, good-bye Avast.

I just had the same problem with Avast Premier @ Windows 7 x64. Internet simply doesn’t work anymore, I’m connecting through a router. After a couple of tries I uninstalled it. If the issue does not get fixed soon I will not renew my licence.

I would suggest that unless you had McAfee installed and didn’t uninstall it thoroughly (leaving Remnants) as most likely was/is the case with the original poster, then You don’t have the same problem. 8)
