Installing Avast home Edition caused networking failure

Hi,
I’ve installed the Avast 4 Home Edition on my new Compaq Laptop running Vista.
After download and installation, I was asked wheather I want to run a scan on reboot. I siad “yes”, and when the scan reached 5% the comuper stuck. after a frw minutes I reboot it, and since then I could not connect to the internet.
When I tried ping-ing it failed and I got Error 1231. Everything else looks OK.

Does anyone have an idea how that happened and how to fix it?

Did you move any file to Chest while scanning? Did you delete any file?
Check the scan report file (Avast4\DATA\report\aswBoot.txt) for more info.
Which is your firewall? Any other antivirus running? And in the past?

Thanks for the reply,

Did you move any file to Chest while scanning? NO
Did you delete any file? NO
Check the scan report file (Avast4\DATA\report\aswBoot.txt) for more info. I already uninstalled Avast…
Which is your firewall? At the time I think the windows firewall was on. At the moment I disabled it
Any other antivirus running? NO
And in the past? The norton Internet Security trial version, which I got with the laptop

thanks

  1. Remove NAV or Norton 360 through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
  2. Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me. Boot.
  3. Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.

The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer.
