I have been attempting to work on my grand daughter’s computer which does not work. I think it is simply eaten up with virsus’ :-(. It appears to me that she has had Avast on the computer and for some reason, it quit working. Since I cannot get on-line with this computer, how can I get Avast to update and run a scan to get rid of the virsus’ I’m seeing? I’m very much a novice with limited experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You’re welcome. That is what this board is for.
If the system indeed is really badly infected, you may want to consider a format and a clean installation of the operating system.
1)install Windows
2)install motherboard drivers
3)install other drivers
4)install firewall (if you don’t have a hardware firewall, otherwise skip this step)
5)install av software <<< Do this BEFORE going online! 6)get ALL security updates and patches.
Thanks for the expanded information on what I will need to re-install if a format is what I end up having to do. That is my LAST resort and the prospect of re-installing the necessary drivers etc is exactly why I have mine set up to copy my entire C: drive on a nightly basis. I know, maybe overkill, but the prospect of getting everything back on and tweaked is a nightmare. Thanks again.
