Installing problem

Hello,

I started using avast for my android phone and I was very enthused it’s a great app!
I used Aira Antivir for my laptop so far but I wanted to start using avast for my laptop aswell… I deinstalled Antivir and downloaded avast…
When I am trying to install avast the first progress works but when it comes to the windows installer it just freezes and won’t install completely.

I am using MS Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2
Intel Core2 duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26Ghz, 4,0GB …

Uninstall possible remnants of previously installed AVs see, http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/, this has a collection of manufactures removal tools, so that should remove any remnants, registry, etc.

Item 4 in the list is avira.

Here is a direct download link for avast free (I assume that is what you wanted to use), http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe.

tried that didn’t work tho… still no progress at the windows installer

Try a clean reinstall given that the first failed it could be corrupt blocking any subsequent attempt.

Download the latest version of avast, 7.0.1456 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for 5.x, 6.0.x and 7.0.x).
    1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 6.x if previously installed and then for 7.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

there is an error message showing up after waiting a long time during the process: “Install server not responding”

I’m not sure what to suggest as I don’t really know what the “Install server not responding” error is or where the problem might lie. I haven’t seen that “Install server not responding” error in the forums before.

I got a lot of hits on a search for http://uk.search.yahoo.com/search?p="Install+server+not+responding"

Many of these feel that this is related to an old or corrupt windows installer, so it might be worth trying to reinstall the latest version, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942288

the problem is that I can’t install the latest (4.5) version of the windows installer, cause it’s not for Vista SP2 :frowning:

I m just not sure if its avast or windows installer… cause the installer works for other programms i d like to install…

You could try replicating my search but add Vista SP2 to the search string.

Other than that I’m at a loss as to what else to suggest.

I dont know how and why, but randomly without doing anything it finished installin and is working now… weird
