InstallScript Setup launcher has stopped working & Group policy

Hello,
My laptop is a MS Vista 64-bit version. Last week, it crashed and somehow, mysteriously, it rebooted (itself - (?)) after relentless “safe mode” boot tries.
(It used to boot till safe mode dialogue and then nothing used to come on screen)

After this re=booting,j

  1. When clicked “Mozilla Firefox”, it gave some “XPCOM” error. (I don’t remember what was displayed exactly). I tried to uninstall & re-install; but couldn’t install it now. It says, “Group policy” message.

  2. I tried to install another program, Zerodha Trader by name; it’s a trading platform. But the dreaded “InstallScript launcher has stopped working” message keeps popping up.

  3. And generally, the system has become too slow load any programs or files; for example, it takes about 20-30 seconds to load even a simple text file.

I’ve attached the mbam, FRST & aswmbr log files for your perusal.

I greatly appreciate your time and efforts to sort out these issues.

Regards,
Bob

After reading a couple of more threads here, I’ve remembered that (after the crash), I was trying to boot it in safe mode. It used to run the list of files and stop at ASWRVRT. Prior to the crash, a windows update was installed.
And somehow, mysteriously, the system re=booted again after about 3 days.

FYI

Regards,
Bob

You appear to have cryptoprevent on the system so disable all protection
Reboot
Do your downloads then re-enable protection whitelisting the files when asked

Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

I’ve got the firefox installed after the CryptoPrevent procedures.

However, I’m not able to install the other program. Still the message, “InstallScript launcher has stopped working” keeps popping up.

Here is the Fixlog after the fix.

Thanks! +

Could you download and run this patch please https://flexerasoftware.flexnetoperations.com/control/inst/AnonymousDownload?dkey=8061751

Then try again

Dear EssexBoy,
i thank you very much for your kind help. After running the above patch, the InstallShield setup is running like a charm.

With this thing cleared, are you going to send me your “usual” end of the process patch file to remove the utilities? Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Bob

That error was related to a bad windows update which has caused some problems

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Remove tools

Download and run Delfix

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

If you do need to keep Java then download JavaRa
Run the programme and select Remove Java Runtime. Uninstall all versions of Java present
Once done then run it again and select Update Java runtime > Download and install Latest version

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/javara.JPG

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Unchecky

Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

Thanks EssexBoy for all your help. Everything in shipshape!
