Interesting can Avast keep up?

No. No one can keep up. Since “keep up” means (in the context of the article) that they can secure you 100% of the time.

AVs will always be playing catchup and having to try to detect new malware without a specific signature. We are already seeing this in avast7, autosandbox is more aggressive to the point people are whining about it. Then there is the Cloud Services, File Rep, etc.

But that doesn’t absolve a user from taking reasonable pro-active precautions, try not to run as administrator (limited user account) to help limit potential damage should they get infected.

Not to forget a robust backup (if you don’t want to lose it back it up) and recovery strategy (hard drive imaging software). Should your system fail for any reason you should be able to get it up and running without to high a degree of hassle/pain.

I do a weekly image back-up of my primary drive partitions and I have a small batch program that I run several times a day to back-up volatile data files, .doc, .xls, image files, photos, email folders, address book, email account settings, anything that changes frequently that would cause you pain and you don’t want to lose.
