Interesting Renewal Notice From Avast

My current 3 computer license expires in 29 days on Aug 24, 2011

I just got a renewal notice from Avast in the GUI.

Purchased a three computer license renewal for two years through the GUI for $79.99. I did this after thinking maybe the new license would extend my subscription from Aug 24, 2011 to Aug 24, 2013 and not start a new license from July 26, 2011 to July 26, 2013. The only reason I thought the later because I was once told by Avast Sales that is how renewals worked.

In any case I made the renewal purchase downloaded the license file, inserted it in the GUI and my license expiration date was updated to Aug 24, 2013 and not July 26, 2013 which I had been told was how it worked. Maybe the policy was changed since I complained to Avast Sales about it

Two things to note

  1. I had to use the IE tab on Firefox to make the secured purchase.
  2. I also downloaded the installer file and it was 6.0.1000 vs the current Beta version of 6.0.1203 so I did not use run the installer file.

Now I have to repeat the license update on the other two computers. So far so good.

Thanks Avast.

I would uninstall one of the systems with AIS and install the free version (clean install using the uninstall utility from safe mode also). There is normally an offer in the Summary section to upgrade, check the price, might be cheaper ;D

Thanks for your help

Not needed. See my modified OP.

Besides I hate to uninstall avast! and then reinstall it because to my knowledge you still have to manually insert all your changes to the defaults and create your Custom Scans all over again when you do an uninstall and reinstall. Hopefully this will be changed in the future.

No problem, hopefully they have changed the renewal policy as that was bad for those who chose to update early.

Good to go on all three computers.

All and in the renewal process went smoothly other than having a failed purchased attempt in Firefox and then having to to use the IE tab to make the purchase ;D

That will teach me to use Firefox ;D

Sorry to interrupt but, so you are wasting your 29 days left? Or I missed something?

Nope

Avast changed their policy so that once you get the GUI pop-up renewal notice even if 29 days before the expiration of your current license if you renew using the GUI your new license expires 12 or 24 months from the current (old) license expiration date and not from the date of renewal.

In other words, what you are purchasing is a 12 or 24 month extension of your current license from its expiration date.

This is how it should be and this is how it is now. At least it was for me.

I agree. Thanks for the explanation.

Yes Nesivos, we have recently adjusted the renewal process so the license is aka “extended” not replaced. This works just when you renew from program.
