Great - does that mean XP and Vista users will stop getting avast popups offering Google Chrome ?
I hope so but going by the dumb ads seen in the past, they never check to see if a user is already using what they are pushing.
I don’t see that as “forcing” anyone to do anything. My ladyfriend here will continue using Chrome but only because she can’t get anything past 9 in IE. She’d be using IE if it was feasible but IE9 on Vista has gotten very slow. Firefox is not and never has been an option here. I’m working on getting her to accept me building her a newer system that would run Win 7 at the least but eventually 10. I have looked up parts prices and I can build a pretty good AMD A10 APU based system with 8 gb of memory for just over $200. I’ve never completely built a system and I’d like to give it a try. What she has is an eMachine bought just 3 days before Windows 7 came out which turned out not to be eligible for the free upgrade even though Best Buy said it would be. It has Vista Home Basic with a 1.6ghz Celeron 420 single core CPU. I get on it to do maintenance for her and it totally frustrates me with how slow it is. I think I will build the new one and if she doesn’t want to use it, I could probably sell it for at least a $100 profit.
By not providing the latest Chrome version, XP/Vista users are effectively being “forced” to use Firefox, since using a outdated web browser actually isn’t a option these days.
FF is way more secure than IE.
The only question is Chrome vs. FF, with the former out of the picture, the latter is the only thing left.
Since I don’t push any browser, you’ll never have a browser war with me. In my knowledge quest, I’d be curious to see an article claiming IE is more secure than FF, since I’ve seen many say the reverse.
I saw one just last night. I’d have to find it again. However, they all say that out of the box , with no addons or extensions added, IE is the safest.
