I remember when … ( I used to own one of these :slight_smile: )

A.A.A.D.D.

Helpful hints…

A sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a
Knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed.
(hmmmmmm…)

============================================

Neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.
(Use paper towel rolls for large cords.)

============================================

Whenever I purchase a box of S.O.S Pads, I immediately take a pair of
Scissors and cut each pad into halves. After years of having to throw

Be much more economical. Now a box of S.O.S pads last me indefinitely!
In fact, I have also noticed that the scissors get ‘sharpened’', too!!

=============================================
Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little hydrogen
Peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works
Every time! (Now, where to put the body?) LOL

Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal

When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the
Corn’s’ natural sweetness.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Another option for corn on the cob: Remove about half the shucks! Cut each end off the corn
and put corn (with shucks) in microwave. Microwave about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes per ear.
Remove from Microwave using a “hot mitt”. Continuing to hold with “mitt” - remove
Shucks - silks are easily brushed off. Serve immediately. Deeeeelicious!

.=====================================

Broadband Providers Cap Monthly Usage

Just another example of big business socking it to the public.
If the big Oil companies can get away with gauging profit margins,
why not let the big Telecommunication companies join the bandwagon. :‘( :’(

A large number of UK ISP has a limit included in the package, some as low as 3GB some 5GB. There are however, some that purport to be unlimited, and some of those then pop-up the unreasonable use clause (what is unreasonable about using the supposed unlimited download they advertised) to ditch high bandwidth users.

The UK has only recently started offering broadband mobile where the user has a USB dongle to connect, most of these also start at a 3GB limit with an arm and a leg required should you go over that limit.

Fill your car for $1.10 a gallon?

Hopefully I’ll still be alive when this actually happens. :slight_smile:

The lightbulb of the future?
Luxim’s plasma lightbulb

How does Apple get away with this badware behavior?
All of this just for a security update… :o

No Different than a program having Google or Yahoo toolbar checked by default ::slight_smile:

You’re joking right, a bit different a toolbar (measured probably in KBs) to one or two full blown applications measured in the tens of MBs almost 95MB.

Same idea. Wether its a tool bar, or a Full application such as Safari or Microsoft Silverlight. Lots of companies use this tactic. Microsoft, Adobe, Sun, Google, etc. Apple is just joining the host of other companies already doing it.

We may not particularly like the way these companies do it, but its not hard to uncheck the box.

I must admit i am inclined to agree its not hard to uncheck a box, but then again for some it can be, most people won’t know if they need it or not, or even how to use the programs properly.

But mac is right in saying alot of companies do it, we use norton anti-virus at work (yuck), and when i was renewing the subscription it turned out updating to version 2008 was cheaper so i went ahead, low and behold the next screen confirmed my purchase, i had to click NO to confirm it…
If i had done what most people had done and clicked yes (because lack of reading) it would of installed norton internet security at a bigger price…

So, apple is only playing alone, someone just put them in the spotlight recently.

Tagging something as a security update and throwing in the kitchen sink isn't exactly looking out for the consumer. It's big business at its worst.... IMHO

If you look Apple is not tagging it as a security update. Its Clearly marked New Software.

http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/images/apple_wasu.png

This is the Applke Software Update Module.
What does NEW software have in common with an update of something you already have installed
on your system ???

Why not leave the items unchecked by default and give me the opportunity to check them if
I should want to also install the other products ???

You said Apple was tagging them as Security Updates, I posted the photo to prove that they are labeling them as new software and not updates.

As to why they are checking them by default? I don’t Know, Why does Microsoft, Google, Adobe, Etc? Most likely they are thinking some users will not notice, and then try the software and use it. Much like Adobe/MS/Google Etc.

Dirty Move? Yes. Is apple the First or the Only one Doing it? No.

Fully agree with you Mac. It's dirty pool no matter which Company plays these tricks on their customers.

The next time you receive some spam and have a little time on your hands,
try what this person did…

What Apple is doing is no different than Windows Update … with one exception. Windows checks nothing and asks you to check what you want. Apple checks all and asks you to uncheck what you do not want.

How hard is either to do? Not hard at all as both are the exact reverse of each other. In both cases, it is not at a all hard to read, decide what you want or do not want, and make your choices. Why is it that no one complains that Windows Update makes you check what you want instead of doing it for your lazy butts? (By the way, please do not take that personally as it is not meant to be.)

I do not own nor use any Apple products but I feel it is unfair to accuse Apple of doing wrong when it is doing practically the same as too many other companies.
