A little surprise last night:

Windows 8 a ‘catastrophe’ for gamers.

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-18996377

I think it isn’t just gamers that are going to find the walled garden approach (like apple) of windows 8 a pain in the rear.

Sux that we can never get to the end of that dammed rainbow to collect our little pot of gold ;D

Nice video Bob

I suspect this could lead to the EU and Microsoft doing the tango in court yet again.

Thanks, and I found that pot of gold:

I was just about to post about this. Here’s another link about it.

I think that, coming from such a massively popular gaming source, that this could be the final nail in the coffin for Win 8 as far as the gaming community is concerned.

Hi Dch48,

I carefully paid attention of what DavidR had to say about his appreciation of Win8 and you sort of confirming what he has said.
On the other hand, bob3160 sounds quite enthusiastic and wholeheartedly seems to have made the transition to Win8.

Well I am not quite convinced and not eager to switch.
It is the strength of this forum that we can evaluate all + & - points, and this in a very unbiased way.
Love these forums for that.

Dch48, thaks for reporting, my friend. Very informative link you provided us with,

" Newell’s opinion should be considered through a gaming lens, as Valve is a popular portal that allows customers to download games and link their accounts to the cloud through Steam."
I know that there have been some problems with Steam and avast! so maybe this same “gamer” want’s us also to stop using avast! ???
Remember that the person originally writing this article isn’t totally unbiased.
There are always three sides to every story: Yours, Mine and somewhere in the middle you’ll usually find the truth.

I completely understand Bob’s enthusiasm for Win 8 because it fits very well for the way he uses his computers and other things. For me however, it looks like a bad fit.

I was very enthusiastic about the forthcoming windows 8 (when it was touted to be much lighter (small kernel, etc.)) having skipped Vista completely, hadn’t been too impressed with win7 when released. But not really being able to do much about it, I was stuck with it on my net win7 netbook and I’m still not overly impressed with win7.

So from the initial hype I really was looking forward to win8, but the more reviews I have read the less impressed I am about it as a large screen Desktop PC OS solution.

So I may have to wait for the next incarnation of windows (win9) if there is one or take the best of a bad lot and get win7 before I get a new desktop, looks like that may be some time.

A little music from my front porch

Hi Dch48 and DavidR,

That is why I appreciate it when both sides of the coin and also the third side is being discussed. Maybe bob3160 better fits the computing that is foreseen for the average Win8 user. Well I hope win8 is not like the mythical procrustean bed and you later find your feet gonna stick out,

Who has come to Jitsi from Skype? Some recommend using this instead of Skype. What is your experience?

Sorry Damien but this may replace Trillian. It is not a replacement for Skype.

Looks like a nice project  Think I’ll put this one on my Christmas wishlist.

I think you could put that one on the christmas tree

Why not put it in the fridge, no need for the fans anymore. ;D

The guy has got to be colour blind, or perhaps it is one of those remote control helicopter thingys.
