Interface randomly opens up

I’m using the latest Free edition on a 8.1 Pro machine. The issue is that the user interface will just randomly open to a blank page all by itself. This happens numerous times throughout the day.
I followed tech. supports advice and I uninstalled Avast using the awsclear.exe utility and procedures they provided. Then reinstalled Avast again and the exact same problem still happens.

This is really annoying and any help would be greatly appreciated. I have this same version on a 8.1 laptop and it does not have this issue.

So I did not have this release however even after updating I am still seeing the same problem.

Repair avast!:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → avast!
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

OK, So in addition to the previous attempts I have re-ran the repair. Same results
I then ran the cleaner. Reboot. Download and Install Avast Free version (AVAST 2014 R4 (build number 9.0.2021). reboot PC. Exact Same Results.

Not sure where to go from here

  • OS…?? (32/64 Bit…?)
  • Other security related software installed…??
  • Which AV(s) did you use before avast!..??

I am on 8.1 Pro 64-Bit and the only other security programs installed is Spybot S&D. Prior to Avast I was using AVG but I’ve been on Avast for probably 3 months now with no problems until this just started.

As I stated earlier I have Avast with Spybot on another 8.1 x64 machine and I am not seeing this problem. I’m guessing it has to be another program/ app that is interfering with it but I don’t know what.
Everything else is typical programs such as Office 213, Autocad, Nitro Pro PDF, and Quickbooks but these were all on this PC when I originally installed Avast and didn’t see this problem.

I guess once I get a chance I’ll start stopping services/ programs to see if I can narrow it down

  1. Dump SpyBot S&D. It’s totally useless. Use MalwareBytes.
  2. How did you uninstall AVG? Did you use the vendor uninstaller?

Ok I am here shooting from the hip. Do you have any king of messenger program where you set it up for avast! to scan and you put avastUI.exe instead of ashQuick.exe. This was a common mistake and made avast! to pop up suddenly.
