The last couple of times I have run a full scan, the programme stops due to ‘internal errors’ - I am totally up to date and always have been. I have never had any problems before. I send the email to Avast as requested whan this happens, and have updated several timwes since sending the first of these emails - any help would be appreciated!
Internal error is not a good thing…
Which is your Windows? 98, Me, XP?
Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
nomis, do you think that it always stops with this error at the same place of the scan?
Don’t think it stops at the same point every time. Am running Windows98. Have ‘repaired’ but makes no difference. Its fine if I check individual files, folders or select an assortment for it to check - its just the ‘full’ scan that doesn’t work anymore. I do not run any other anti virus progs.
You can go to the program settings and turn on the creation of the report file (with “OK files” to be included as well in the report). This way, you can find out where the scan really stopped (it’s going to be close to the end of the report). After avast! disappears, check the end of the report file - the “troublesome” file is likely to be close to the end (close in the sense that this particular file will probably not be written in the report, but the previous one will be the last line, so it shouldn’t be hard to guess). We would certainly like to have this file - if it really causes problems to avast! - so that we could fix the problem. The report file created (if you turned it on in program settings) will be (default location) at \Data\Report\Simple User Interface.txt
Thanks - have turned on ‘reports’ - will update you soon.
Really sorry, but…not sure where to find the info you requested! I turned on ‘reports’ as stated. Because the scan ‘aborts’ - I can not go into show the last scan details etc. Where can I go to find what you asked for? (I once again sent the log as prompted)
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Help\ENU\MiniReader.pdf [+] is OK
C:\Program Files\MySearch\bar\1.bin\MYSEARCHPLUGINPROXY.CLASS [+] is OK
C:\Program Files\MySearch\bar\1.bin\NPMYSRCH.DLL [L] Win32:Adware-gen. [Adw] (0)
Hi - These are the last three lines of the report generated. Before it aborted, I think the last visible line was something to do with a windows update v4 temp.
Help is much appreciated!
You’ve answered yourself…
Google npmysrch.dll keyword and you’ll find some info… Hope any of them help you…
The MySearch has is a little suspect history.
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/pest/pest.aspx?id=453090717
Summary MySearch is NOT a Trojan, virus or spyware. It is a browser helper object added to Internet Explorer that allows you to search the internet using a variety of search engines. It is distributed from a variety of websites including www.mysearch.com. Also, our research team has observed the Toolbar being installed with a bundle of known adware and file-sharing applications and other rogue programs. Recently, MySearch was found bundled with adware from FasterXP.com. In the past, it was observed being installed without user awareness or permission through security exploits from a variety of websites belonging to third-party distributors. If you intentionally installed this toolbar, you should elect to keep it by excluding it from future detection.
If I had any doubt I would remove it try this - ToolbarCop http://www.snapfiles.com/get/toolbarcop.html.
There should be a betaversion released soon (during this week, I hope) which might solve the problems. So, I’d ask you for a little patience… I’ll let you know here when there’s anything new about it.
Thanks for your help on this guys - I really appreciate it. One last thing - if ‘MYSearch’ is effectively stopping me from carrying out a full scan, if Avast! couldn’t ‘cope’ with it, shouldn’t one of my Spyware Progs have dealt with it? I use AdawareSE and Spybot Search & Destroy.
avast won’t be able to deal with this as it isn’t something it would detect, it isn’t a virus and is more like an adware issue, so the two tools you mentioned would be more likely be able to cope with it. However, it doesn’t easily fall into a malware category as it could be considered a legit search helper.
Try a google for remove mysearch, etc. and see what that brings.
Also useful as a diagnostic tool, look for any reference to mysearch running - Download HiJackThis.zip - HJT Information HiJackThis Tutorial 1 or HiJackThis Tutorial 2 or HiJackThis Tutorial 3
For an on-line analysis - HiJackThis Log file - On-line Analysis OR HiJackThis Log file - On-line Analysis 2
Ignore any 023 reference to avast processes, this is a hiccup in the HJT 1.99.1 (especially missing file entry for avast), if you need any help with any of the analysis let us know.
I don’t think the problem has anything to do with MySearch, actually - it’s probably just a coincidence. Let’s hope the new beta is released soon (and fixes the problem).
We are awasre that the problem doesn’t relate to mysearch, just that nomis1963 also wants to get rid of it.
The new beta has been released. Please try it and let us know if it helped (i.e. if the Internal errors disappeared).
Thanks!
