Today, AvastIS warned me that my subscription expires in 28 days and suggested that I renew now. Not a bad idea, as I don’t have the desktop turned on all the time, and might miss the renewal. However…

I renewed online, using the internal renewal set up. Post renewal, I noticed that automatic renewals was enabled, although I didn’t do this in the past and at no time during the renewal process was I asked about this. I don’t want Avast to renew automatically 2 years from now… who knows if my card number will be the same, or if I might prefer to use a different card two years from now. However, without asking, Avast turned this on, leaving me with no way to turn it off.

I know that it isn’t that big a deal, but still… by following the Avast recommendation to renew now, in effect, this cost me one month of my subscription, as the online renewal apparently takes effect immediately, even though I had 28 days remaining on my previous licence. And the new renewal date is 2 years from now, not 2 years and 28 days. Like I said, one month isn’t that big a deal, but it is still one month that I paid for and lost thanks to following the Avast recommendation.

About Avast shows my licence for 2 years, with the 2 year from now renewal date, but when I check my account using Avast, it shows my previous licence with an expiry 28 days from now. IOW, the account information shown by Avast is not correct, even after a reboot of Windows.
Basically, renewing online via the internal controls of Avast has problems with dates and licences and information. I have yet to figure out how to change the automatic renewal, or update my account to show the correct information.
