Internet Access Repair Apps ... Any Good? (RESOLVED)

For future reference, are any of these Internet Access Repair apps any good and recommended?

Complete Internet Repair

Or would they do more harm than good?
If these aren’t recommended, are there any other apps that are?

Would Windows Repair (All in One) be recommended for this type of situation?

OK, you’ve done the first two bits right. Major Geeks is a reputable repository, and you came here.

Now read the comments and ratings at Major Geeks. It’s true that the more people who like something, the better it is–up to a point.

Do the products work/are they useful? Generally speaking this type of fix-it doesn’t do anything you can’t, they just save you the pain of learning how to fix it yourself. In many cases, with a bit of Ixquicking and DuckDucking you can find what is wrong and DIY plus fix your familiy’s and mates’ boxes.

I cannot recommend either of those apps, because I’ve never used them and didn’t log on the MG to read the comments. But I have tried similar apps in the past when I didn’t have the knowledge.

While I have decent computer knowledge in various areas … fixing problems with a loss of Internet connection / access is not one of them. That’s why I am interested in whether these or other similar apps work.

Other than the elementary superficial things to try like disconnecting and reconnecting the modem / router to reset it … computer reboot … computer power down & power up … cleaning with CCleaner … System Restore, Etc. — if it becomes obvious that some arcane setting got changed, I’m not going to know what to do to fix the loss of Internet access problem. I’m not good with all that Proxy and LAN stuff, Etc.

And since on this occasion I was surprised by the already existent loss of Internet access when I got there to my sister’s computer, I couldn’t exactly do some Googling for a fix. ;D

On some occasions I’ve been able to fix No Internet Access problems by clicking on the Fix link there in the Diags section of the error page. But, on other occasions like on this latest occasion, that didn’t work.

So that’s why I’d prefer to have a Tool handy in my Flash Drives that could fix a No Internet Access problem.

I can vouch for this one. I've used it successfully on more than one occasion. (There's nothing in there that with the right knowledge, you couldn't do without this program. Having it however does make life simpler. :)

:o :frowning: I’m probably going to get reamed bigtime for this.

But, if you don’t get any joy with the Internet Access Repair apps and you’ve run out of ideas, you may want to ask at https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/, who “specialise” in this type of problem. It’s a bit like asking a mechanic to repair your car’s panels: we can only give you good advice here, and W’pool doesn’t do AV in depth.

And FWIW, I am always happy when a shop shows me where better info can be had, I call it “Service”, it encourages me to come back.

Hi godon451,

The guys really in the know and actually testing your connections are here: http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/ (mask your mail address).
I made my own dhcpd config via tests there (too many open wifi in my direct living environment).
From my end the best way is to keep profile settings under lock and barrel. Also a repeater installed can work miracles on bad access.

Thanks, Bob. I just finished downloading that Complete Internet Repair.

In comparing the MajorGeeks Screen Shots of both of those apps … Complete Internet Repair reminds me of Windows Repair (All in One) for more ease of use. The other one — Why Can’t I Connect — looks way complicated, almost assuredly more than what I can handle.

Thanks for the link, Gordon. I bookmarked it. Can’t have too many sources of good effective help.

Thanks for that one polonus. As Chim says,

Can't have too many sources of good effective help.

I’ve learnt how to DIY out of necessity, and it’s all handbuilt now, including port forwarding. UpnP is a security risk due to open soliciting ports, so there was a huge learning curve, and those Internet/Networking Fixit apps were a great help. Oh, and http://www.tcpipguide.com/free/index.htm 8).
