Internet Connection Problem when running Avast!

I’m currently connected via wireless router. When running Avast! and I open Firefox or IE, Avast! apparently blocks connection and I get that “This page is currently not available” page. Stopping Avast! On Access Protection allows me to connect properly to the Web.

Anyone know what my problem might be?

avast doesn’t do blocking, it scans content and alerts to virus infection.
Firewalls do blocking so check your firewall (which is ? ) for ashWebSv.exe avast! Web Scanner and ensure that it allows access.

What is your OS

Actually, I loaded Avast Home this morning and having the same problem. When I have the virus protection running, I can’t use IE (but can use other programs that use the network connection), and when I turn Avast off, I can use IE.

Any ideas?

Yes, do as I suggested ensure that your firewall (that you don’t mention) isn’t blocking avast. The web shield only monitors http port 80 traffic, so if your other programs use other ports they aren’t monitored by web shield.

What is your OS ?
What is your firewall ?

By the way, I forgot to mention:

Firewall on, Avast off - IE works
Firewall off, Avast on - IE doesn’t work
Firewall off, Avast off - IE works

Don’t know if this helps or not.

 Thanks for the help! ;D

I’ve got the same problem. After a virus detection, i can’t connect to IE with a message : Impossible to find the server.

If i push donwn the web protection, all right. But if the web protection is activate, i can’t connect, but MSN Messager is connected.

Thank for your help.

I’ve even tried turning off the web shield and the standard shield and it still stops my IE cold.

SURELY someone has an answer for this. It doesn’t seem that the AVAST people would want their product to shut down people’s browsers… a program that is pretty integral to the computing experience.

Any help anyone can offer on this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan have you given Webshield access Via The Sheild Firewall v3.0 (ashWebSv.exe)

Yes, ashWebSv.exe has full control each way. The only thing that is not checked is Lock Time Priviledge is set to No. Should this be set to Yes? I have no idea what it is.

Thanks for the help.

Dan

Lock Time Priviledge is set to No
Sorry dan not sure what this is in your firewall but i would hazard a guess and say that the No setting is correct. I would think that this is use to time either lock out or time before locking is engaged.

You might like to try deleting the entry, that would force your firewall to ask permission again. I have seen it with other firewalls that even though the permissions are set, somehow the underlying settings are corrupt or different.

Deleting the entry and starting again has worked for many using other firewalls; mine for instance with Outpost Pro, once web shield was blocked after having worked, the settings were fine and the only way to resolve it was delete the entry and have it ask again.
