Internet connection problems - Firefox 3.5

Another good source for older versions of many browsers is:

It’s strange but this morning I haven’t noticed any of those delays. ??? ??? ???

That manual proxy setting suggested by Sammo made a big difference (at least now, in the daytime), thanks a lot. It’ll be interesting to see what this evening’s like – with both auto-detect and no-proxy settings, evenings have been worse. I still think there must have been some kind of unpublicized change in FF 3.5 that makes it much more sensitive to internet delays than 3.1 was.

Another thing that might help is if you have a firewall, make sure that the rules for ashWebSv.exe include setting the outgoing TCP port to include port 80 (http port). See attached image…

I went to the Mozilla support site and found many people with complaints about Firefox 3.5. There are a few that have had good luck, but the majority have had problems. I, for one, will wait until I hear that Firefox 3.5 has been fixed before downloading and installing it.
Thank you for this thread as it has helped me avoid this problem.

FWIW my early troubleshooting indicates the problem in my case was not due to Firefox 3.5; it appears to be due to Secunia PSI, which was updated at a similar time.
Just caught my connection in the act of randomly not connecting, and exited the PSI, connection instantly enabled.
Seen this twice, so far. Not conclusive, but an indication, thus far.
And this is the problem when several updates occur in a small timeframe.

I think I may be one of the lucky ones, as I have had no problems with Firefox 3.5. (besides a couple of non-essential add-ons lost)

I am using the portableapps version running from a memory stick, but I don’t think whether this would affect anything, besides the locations of the relevant files for it.

I have had a big improvement with the latest private FF 3.5 build by Tete. You can get it here: http://www1.plala.or.jp/tete009/en-US/software.html#FX35_VC8PGO

Sorry but I’ll wait for Firefox to make the fixes. Till then I’ve made Chrome my default browser.

Sorry to hear that. I guess I’m another lucky one, then. Among all the addons, I only needed to change Tab Mix Plus to the pre-release version, which I found no problem. The other addons on my FF are all compatible with FF3.5.

You can’t use it with 3.1x versions of Firefox. I’m waiting until my necessary addons get updated.

Do you mean Tab Mix Plus 0.3.7.4pre.090516? No, as written clearly in the thread I linked, it’s not for 3.1.* or 3.2.* but for 3.5, which I am using, and 3.6.

Yes, we’re saying the same.

Then all you need to do is use the existing regular TabMixPlus add on, which worked on my system with firefox 3.0.11 or 3.0.14 (I can’t recall), which is I presume what you are using (didn’t us go back to the last stable version using filehippo, etc.) so that add-on should work.

It’s what I’m doing.

I am still getting major problems in having to reload websites to get them to appear.

Surprisingly I am not getting these problems in $hiternet Explorer.

Something is majorly wrong with the new Firefox 3.5 upgrade.

I’ve disabled my firewall, anti-virus, add-ons and everthing else I can think of but the problem persists.

I’ve cleared my cache with Ccleaner and ZA Pro.

Hopefully Mozilla will fix this soon. It’s getting really annoying having to hit reload every 10 seconds.

I had the same problem until I installed Tete’s private FF 3.5 build. Its faster than the official release with no noticeable slow downs. Try one of them: http://www1.plala.or.jp/tete009/en-US/software.html

Thanks for the tip Sammo.

Unfortunately because I don’t know much about computers I think I will wait for the official release.

For experts like yourself it’s easy to fix things if they go wrong from another version.

But computer idiots like me just make our lives harder when we use them

Thanks again though dude!

Have you tried firefox safe mode, I,m grasping at straws, but its worth a try http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

@ Sammo: As I’d mentioned earlier, that manual proxy setting you suggested for HTTP worked beautifully, thanks. I hardly ever see ā€œlooking up ā€¦ā€ any more, and delays when ā€œwaiting forā€ or ā€œloading dataā€ are normal and expected, depending on how heavy internet traffic is both in general and at the destination site.

I do still get some ā€œlooking upā€ delay (not as bad as the other was) when connecting to secure sites. Is there a separate setting for HTTPS (maybe the SSL proxy?), or is that just something I have to live with as part of the encryption/decryption process? Thanks again, and best.

Tried it in safe mode but I can’t load anything then? ??? ??? ???

Thanks for the suggestion though
