Can someone help with this issue as it’s hard to explain, but i try my best. When I open up my internet icon (the one with 2 monitors connecting together) I look at the received section and I’m receiving data at about 14bytes every 10 seconds and I have not open up my browser or not downloading anything.
I check my task manager to see if anything is running and nothing is running. I check my OA firewall status and nothing is running but only svchost is running. Is there another way I can check to see what I am receiving because 14 bytes every 10 seconds is a lot of data to receive and I am not downloading anything. I never did check this, so I’m not sure if it is normal.
I have scan my computer with avast 4.8, malwarebytes, sas, dr web and there are no results of a virus or malware.
So can help me by checking there internet icon in there taskbar and don’t open up any browsers or download anything and see if they are receiving any data every second or so. If they do have the same as i do I presume it is normal.
The last thing I hope is not having a Trojan in my PC.
Sometimes threats may potentially slip under the radar of conventional malware scanners by engaging in stealth techniques to hide their presence on a PC. Often, in such a scenario, the original threat file is encrypted with polymorphic encryptors which rely on anti-debugging and anti-emulation techniques, presenting a challenging task for malware scanners attempting to detect it. Such techniques are used by threat families including Citwail/Pandex/DieHard, Storm, Mailbot/Rustock and some others.
However, when such a threat is loaded in memory, it needs to decrypt its own malicious code, completely or partially, or it is unable to run. This is where TEMS comes in; by using advanced techniques it is able to detect traces of these threats in memory and alert you of their existence.
ThreatExpert Memory Scanner provides detection of threats that are already active on a client’s computer system. It does NOT provide you with any ongoing protection and does it replace conventional anti-virus or anti-spyware products. It is an additional tool, and can be run in case one suspects malcode to have landed on the computer…
Thanks for providing me with the memory scan as I did use the program to scan my computer with it, and the results were it found no malware in memory It’s good to use other software tools to see if malware is hiding from other common malware scanners.
So YoKenny could be right that it is normal that the connection between TCP/IP is used to keep the sessions alive.
The last result that I don’t want is a Trojan downloading and stealing internet data from my system.
I prefer to not to let threats onto my system so that is why I run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) resident protection and WinPatrol Security Monitor to watch over the things that could alter my systems security.
I just have a question for anyone that is willing to read this and help me. Today I have been looking at my internet connection icon with no browser on and no downloading, just internet is connected only. Now I see “Sent” and “Receive” moving. "Sent is sending around 16 bytes every 10 seconds and “Receive” is receiving around 14 bytes every 10 seconds.
As when I type this thread only “receive” was receiving and now sent is receiving. So I just asking if people can check their internet connection to see if they have the same outcome as i do. If they do I will say that this is solved and i won’t ask this question again and this is normal. The only reason I can’t find out myself is I don’t have another computer to test.
I just hope it’s not a Trojan stealing data from me as I have updated and scan my computer and show’s no infections.
PS. I was going to ask this in the general area but I’ll ask here. Can someone please give me information on how I can change my password in this Avast forum.
What is the youtube video, I can’t open or access it because I got noscripts in my browser.
I try to change my password account related settings but if ask for my secret question and answer which I forgot what it was, which i might not be able to change it.
I also notice that in this forum it display’s the users IP address which I think it should not show it, just in case their avast forum account got hacked and the hacker log onto this site, they can see the users IP address.
Can someone help out with this question. I might have to format my com if my internet data is still downloading without me using the internet.
Northeast,
YoKenny likes sometimes to embed semi-cryptic observational pictures or videos in some of the answers. This can sometimes help with an appreciation of all things webby.
You only need to answer the secret question if you are attempting to retrieve a lost password.
To change a password, you only need to type it in (twice) and enter the original (current) password at the bottom of the page.
If you had filled out the secret question, it would be visible to you. (But not the answer.) So it would do no good, anyway, if you can see no question.
You can “format your com” to your heart’s content; it will make no difference to the very small download/upload you are seeing. AFAIK, all computers connected to the web do this. It’s along the lines of:
“is anyone there?”
“yep”
“cool”…
“is anyone there?”
“yep”
“cool.”
and so on. And occasionally:
“I’m listening if there are any updates.”
“not today.”
“OK”. Or
“OMG, what’s the time?”
“It’s Thursday.”
“OK, thanks.”
etc etc.
Most sites record the IP. It’s visible to any webmaster, on any site where the webmaster wants it recorded. Your ISP records traffic to/fro. Google records it. Is the Avast forum any more likely to be hacked than Google? Any other site you visit? Apart from the “feds”, there’s nothing much anyone can do with it. Just know this: You are not truly anonymous on the web, even if you use a proxy.
You have NoScript installed but don’t know how to use it? Not a bad idea to have a look at the FAQs.
Most scripts are safe to run. If you right click the icon on any particualr web page, it will list the scripts, and what is blocked. You have control over the list, and what is blocked by default.
To view a Youtube video you have to (at least temporarily) allow Youtube.com and ytimg.
The video is a live performance of “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath. (Inappropriate, really; it’s not Sunday ;D.)
