Internet connection timeout elapsed POPUP

Hello,

I have just installed a program caller Servers Alive which monitors my web host’s various services. I am now getting an Avast popup every so often

Internet connection timeout elapsed
serversalive.exe

I have read all the posts that deal with this topic and I have added the line

IgnoreProcess=Serversalive.exe

To the bottom of avast4.ini. What I really want to know is, is this the correct thing to do because that line is in the [Mailscanner] section of avast4.ini and servers alive is not scanning mail.

I hope you can help me. Thank you

Catherine

Catherine,

it looks to me from a preliminary scan of the product that you have taken the correct course of action. While Servers Alive does not scan your incoming email it does claim that it uses outgoing mail (SMTP) to produce its alerts. Both incoming and outgoing mail are lumped into a single timeout check by avast.

The action you have taken should eliminate the warning you have been seeing while still allowing warnings to be produced in the event you might become infected with a malicious email spambot.

Welcome to the avast forum!

Hello alanrf

Thank you for your answer and very quickly! I do not use the email function of servers alive, it is only on my desktop so by disabling it in Avast I am reassured that I have not done anything that will stop Avast or Servers Alive doing what they are supposed to do.

Thank you very much!

Catherine
