Internet Explorer 7 sucks on standards

Windows experts and web developers are unhappy with Microsoft. Yes, again. Since Internet Explorer 7 was announced, Microsoft has promised that supporting current web standards was high on its list. It turns out, though, that by at least one report, IE7 will only support 54% of the CSS 2.1 standard, as compared to 52% in IE6 and 93% in Firefox 1.5 and 96% in Opera 9. In addition to making a whole lot of web developers’ lives a whole lot more difficult, IE7’s lack of standards support is turning off a lot of Microsoft’s most vocal fans, including Paul Thurrott, who runs the excellent Paul Thurrott’s SuperSite for Windows. In a recent Windows IT Pro column, Thurrott accuses Microsoft of leaving users and web developers in the lurch, concluding “My advice is simple: Boycott IE. It’s a cancer on the Web that must be stopped. IE isn’t secure and isn’t standards-compliant, which makes it unworkable both for end users and Web content creators.” Ouch.

I agree it is necessary to boycott IE untill Microsoft improves it, However the fact that it is part of windows means there will be a lot of people who will use it and web developers, like it or not, will have to support it.
On the bright side a growing number of people are useing diffrent browsers Like Firefox, Opera and Safari

thanks Mac for the comments :o
i’ve always have used Netscape 8.1 and i use Opera 9 as my secondary browser, for some reason I don’t feel secure with IE anymore ::slight_smile:

Maxthon seems to be a good browser and its based on IE. When they release ver. 2.0 nothing will stop it!

Hey New_Age 8)

Used to use Maxthon, when is the new version “suppose” to be released??? ::slight_smile:

Hi folks,

M$ wil always have the advantage now of integrating the browser that deep into the OS with all the benefits for them, and the general disadvantages for those who have to deal with the browser vulnerabilities, e.g. the end-users. There are two things that you could do about this: use admin rights only when you absolutely cannot do without. For all other occasions, that is under normal circumstances, browse with normal user rights only (still there is the fact that the browser has normal system’s rights, which is a bit super, maybe this should change for the future). Then another thing is to let the whole of IE run inside a sandbox so that after one browser session you can "throw"that session out so to say. With SP2 they “overhauled” already 50 features to make the OS more secure, but more has to be done for sure. In the Vista days there will be stronger authentcation still, stronger validation still , less or no “tinkering-possibilities” or only for the smart ones, and surfing neatly with your hands tight behind your backs. Handling the OS becomes more and more restrcted for the avaerage user, we already lost full dos-support, the dark side of this is where the “as default” situation is not secure, we all have a problem. Windows is a nice OS, but not out of the box. Understand me right here, no system is secure as it comes out of the box. These issues have to be tackled first always.

Author of CSS is also a developer at Opera Software…

But some are more secure than others out of the box Mac & Linux > Windows out of the box

Hi malware fighters,

Ans when a browser does not keep to standards, this is what you get although in IE6, it is exemplary:

and rather ecent as well,

Only because they aren’t as popular.

Bob is right. If those browsers were as popular (or used as much) as IE, they would be attacked more and therefore there would be more problems with those browsers.

Agreed, The same goes for people saying that the Mac doesn’t get viruses, If it were more popular it would have the same problems Windows has.

The mac does get viruses there were lots for Mac OS 7.x - 9.x

And there are a few tpjans for Mac OS X

Linux and Mac are still built better than windows in my opinion

Linux and Mac are still built better than windows in my opinion
Considering that you work for Apple, I sure hope you feel that way Kyle.... :) ;D :)

;D ;D ;D Yea and im a Supporter of linux too

Sorry Mac, I didn’t know you worked for Apple, I meant no disrespect.

I was talking about those missleading TV ads that say Mac’s don’t get viruses.

The ad does not asy that they dont get viruses

“last year there were 114,000 known viruses for PCs, PCs Not Macs”

that just says that there is not 114,000 viruses for macs it does not say that the mac is Virus-free. (cause it has had viruses about as long as the PC has)
