If I upgrade to IE7 would this affect Avast in any way or is it straight forward?
No, it should have no bad effect on avast. I have been using IE7 since it’s beta version but, of course, I now use the public release version. IE7 is much, much better than IE6 and a little more secure.
Does IE7 disallow access to old IE6 options/procedures or does it just keep all its features and adds more? (what I mean is if I used a certain feature in IE6 would IE7 prevent me from using it)
I’m a bit of worry-wort with trying new things
IE6 is an integral part of the OS, so when you switch to IE7 then this too will be an integral part of the OS so there will be changes that may or may not stop you rolling back to IE6 so I would strongly doubt that you would be able to have both on your system.
I’m holding off installing IE7 for other reasons, as my primary browser is firefox and simply having IE7 on your system could leave you vulnerable to a URI handling issue which simply isn’t present if you have IE6 on your system rather than IE7. There are a couple of topics about this in the forums.
Are you talking about an specific feature or you’re talking in general?
Yeah, I read certain features may not be accessible after upgrading to IE7 but if someone can put my mind at rest by displaying these inaccessable features then I can confidently upgrade (I worry about this kind a thing a lot, were many of you take it in your stride I hesitate to explore the wealth of software out there in case I cant access my files/features afterwards)
I think you won’t lose upgrading to version 7. On contrary, better security, more features…
If you upgrade to IE7 and are using XP then there most certainly is a security issue (URI) and it isn’t better security.
Whats URI can you explain please
Very simplified explanation, a URL can have a command tacked on the end of it which can open and run another program. Do a forums search for URI and IE7 as I mentioned above for more detailed information.
