Internet explorer 8 problem - 2 procesess in task manager?

Is this normal behaviour (because I suspect it is not): I click Internet explorer 8 from my desktop. IE8 loads fine. But when I look at task manager, there is 2 iexplore.exe processes! Why? I have only one tab open, and http://www.google.fi as my homepage. Could that other iexplore.exe be spyware/trojan or something? Or do I have something wrong with my IE8 settings? Also, could someone check my Hijackthis log? Check my profile, I don’t have avast anymore. I’m now using F-secure Internet security 2008. Thanks.

Do you know anything about the 015 entry
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.sampopankki ?

Also can you kill the process iexplore.exe in task manager ?

Sampopankki is http://www.sampopankki.fi/fi-fi/Pages/default.aspx (finnish) online bank. It uses Java, more information: https://ebanking.sampopankki.fi/html/index.html?site=SBNBEN&secsystem=E2

Yes, I can end the process. If I end iexplore.exe, both iexplore.exe processes end. When I open IE8 again, it asks me do I want to restore previous session or go to homepage. This is somekind “crash recovery” if I understand correctly. Really annoying. Do you have IE8? Can this be turned off somewhere? I found some info about this: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/readiness/new-features.aspx#crash

In the link it tells you how to turn off ACR

in Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

Click the Advanced tab.

In the Browsing section, clear the Enable automatic crash recovery check box.

I’m not sure why you have two Iexplorers running, the fact that they are easily stoppable, only run when you use IE, and killing the process shuts down IE would suggest they are not malicious.

Turned off the ACR, but i still have 2 iexplore.exe processes everytime I start IE8 ::slight_smile: Unistalling IE8 maybe the best solution, I can do just fine with IE7. Was there anything other suspicious in my hjt log? I did a full scan with FIS 2008 ealier today and it found nothing. I would attach the scan report here, but I don’t know where to look for it.

it’s normal in Internet Explorer 8, in this new version, Internet Explorer open a new process for main window and one process per any opened tab, this new style allow Internet explorer to prevent closing when a web site in one tab crash and other tabs would not close in that moment and also Internet explorer can recover that tab, don’t worry! it’s not problem, it’s normal and also it’s good

Thanks Omid, I was concerned about this also.

you are welcome
