Internet lagging mostly on YT, Vimeo, Facebook...

Hey, I’m new here. Recently installed a! free on my XP machine, after a clean OS installation. I’ve noticed internet connection seems laggy specially on websites such as Youtube, Vimeo, Facebook, and some bank websites, mostly heavy-content websites. I suspect it has to do with either Script Shield, Web Shield or Network Shield. I really don’t want to lose protection by excluding those sites, so any help on how to configure those shields will be appreciated.
I’m also open to hear from someone with the same issue and how it got resolved.

forgot to add, SoundCloud seems to lag too… so I’m sure it has to do with media streaming…

No lag here and it’s hard to answer or help with your question with out knowing more about your system
and getting more information about other security apps. running on your system.

I’m sorry for the delay in getting back. I was busy with school. Well, I just decided to deal with it. My system is a Sempron 140, 1gb RAM, Windows XP Professional SP3. I have no additional security software other than No Autorun (portable) and Hitman Pro for on-demand scans. That’s it.
I noticed a slight difference running Chrome, seems to lag not so much than with Firefox or IE8.

Try disabeling Hitman Pro and see if that makes a difference.

It’s just there for on-demand. It doesn’t run real-time neither do I have scheduled scans activated.
I looks like the problem when streaming audio/video and I am working on something else simultaneously. Like if I’m listening to a song and then I go to facebook on a different tab it starts to skip and lag the streaming, once Facebook gets all loades it goes back to normal. The same happens when I save an Office document or when I open Outlook to receive mail…

Are you using the default settings in avast! or, have you done some “tweaking” ???
What kind of internet speed do you have???

Default settings, all I did was to exclude soundcloud.com from webshield and scriptshield. I do have ADSL with 6MBps.

Time to do a cleaning with Ccleaner or just clean out the browser’s cache, etc.
Why are you excluding sound cloud.com ???

You are right, the weird thing is that it’s a fresh OS installation. Maybe I could record it and get it on YT so I can show exactly what happens.

It’s ok to download that song. That’s why I uploaded it.
Even new installations can have a lot of crap stored once all the updates and settings have synced.
The browser used also has a lot to do with it. :slight_smile:
