Internet loading problem

I’m very new to avast! I just downloaded it this evening, and after I ran the initial scan at startup, my internet connection will not run. It connects, but I cannot access webpages, Outlook Express, or instant messengers.

I get error messages from avast! when I first start up, saying that it can’t protect my incoming mail, outgoing mail, or news. It is scanning the system, and has found a couple of worms, but it just will not let me access anything online. I did not have this problem prior to the installation of avast! Can anybody help me?

What is the error number in the messages ?
What files (worms) have you deleted ?

The error number in the messages is 10106, and the files I deleted were (I believe) Win32.Trojan-Gen. A couple of these were in Windows files, and before I deleted them, avast! asked if I really wanted to delete them. I have since uninstalled avast! and run my XP startup disk, and the problem is still not fixed. Is there anything I can do?

How about booting with the XP disk and doing a repair of XP?

Good suggestion…
Overinstallation can solve the problem and you won’t lose your programs, settings, data, files, etc.
Just choose ‘Repair’ installation of Windows and install ‘over’ the old installation.

I did boot with the XP disk and repair. It still didn’t work. I might uninstall my internet provider (PeoplePC), and then try to repair XP from the disk. Anything else that might help?
