Internet Mail and Firewall

Hello,

I have the following problem after updating Avast Home Edition to 4.6.744:
With activated Internet mail I can’t recieve or send emails. If I turn it off, all it’s ok.
I think it’s something with the firewall (fritz box) because for the web shield I have to do some changes in the configuration too: not activate ignore local traffic and put the adress 127.0.0.1:8080 to ignored adress.
Now this works.
Making this changes in the Internet mail configuratione doesn’t hav any visible effects.
I searched in the forum for this problem and find some threads, but sorry, my english is not so good. A lot of this i don’ really understand.
Can somebody help me?

Tanks
Jessi

Using:
Windows XP SP2
Thunderbird 1.0
Avast Home Edition 4.6.744
Firewall: Fritz Box Fon WLan

Can you check if into your firewall settings the following programs are allowed to connect?

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable)

Don’t need rights to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)

Do you use any spam killer application?

Yes, the rights are there. And I noticed that if i disable the firewall i can’t send and recieve emails too.

Maybe you can add the following line to the [MailScanner] section of \data\avast4.ini:
Log=20

Then generate some traffic, simulate the problem (i.e. force the avast mail scanner to time out by sending an email with attachment) and then post here the contents of the file \data\log\aswMaiSv.log

Maybe you’ll find something in this Google link.
Seems that the problem is in your ISP SMTP server. Can you contact them?
If you open a command line window and write:
ping 213.165.64.21
What do you get?

do you have remains of AVG left on your pc? I see avgemc.exe listed.

Fast

Fast, that list is the default ignored… seems that yours and mine are the same and they’re not related to installed AVG or not.

Hm,
before Updating avast everything was ok. If I close Internet mail all is ok.
The ping is all right: 4 packets sended, 4 packets recieved, 0 packets lost, answers between 57ms and 111ms.

Any other idea?
