I’ve a small problem with the newest avast version 4.8.1335. I’ve installed Internet mail module and I can’t establish connection with pop server on ssl port and I must to establish connection in unencryption sesion. Can I configure avast and ssl sesion ? When I type a pop port to 995 (ssl) Internet mail client information me about can’t establish connection with pop server. My Internet mail client is mozilla thunderbird 2.0.0.19 and operating system is MS Windows Vista Home Basic 64 bit sp1 PL. Sorry for my English isn’t perfectly.
Currently avast can’t scan SSL (secure encrypted email) that is the whole point of SSL to keep prying eyes out, including your AV.
What errors are you getting displayed ?
Have you modified the default settings in the avast Internet Mail to add these SSL ports to the redirects ?
If you did then the connection will fail as avast can’t handle the secure communication side.
When I redirect a pop port to 995 then I can’t to became an e-mail’s. I’ve an error and my e-mail client inform me about can’t establish connection with pop server. I try to resettings port of pop in avast Internet mail from 110 (default) to 995 (ssl) and I have that error information. When I use the avast e-mail scanner with 110 port everything working properly. That situation is unusual for me cause tls encryption is functionally properly, so why ssl is broken in avast ?
The answer is to remove any modifications you made to the avast redirect ports as that is what is causing the problem, avast can’t handle the secure email (version 5 should be able to handle that though).
In the meantime avast can’t handle the secure email without a third party tool STunnel, so you have to rely on where that email is to scan content. Is that you ISP’s email server or gmail, etc. ?
Some links to give you an idea of what is required, though I don’t know if STunnel works with Vista 64bit OS.

Stunnel now comes as an installer which installs Open SSL and Stunnel so now you just have to download the installer version from here http://www.stunnel.org/download/binaries.html
