Hi there,
I’ve recently run a full virus scan on my Windows 7 PC using Avast and for some reason the Internet doesn’t work. Here are my observations
I can connect to my router (which works with other devices). It windows it says it’s connected with Internet Access.
In all browsers I get a “This webpage is not available” message, or something similar. For example in Chrome, in the status bar it gets as far as “Resolving Host…” then I can the error.
Tried using “Complete Internet Repair” Tool, with all options selected. No luck
Uninstalling Avast doesn’t work
Have the same issue in Safe Mode (with networking enabled) - no luck
I need to desperately get my internet back up work purposes and I don’t know why software that is supposed to enable my computer has effectively disabled it.
Any prompt help with this is most appreciated.
Thanks
Adrian
did avast detect and remove anything?
if so what? … check avast virus chest … malware name given by avast and full file path to where the file was located
Hello,
We first need to verify if there are any malware present and how they could affect to your connections. We’ll use FRST for that.
I can use his logs to map my strategy.
Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (
http://www.mcshield.net/personal/magna86/Images/FRST_canned.png
) by Farbar and save it to your desktop.
Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
[*]Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Press Scan button.
[]It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
[]The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
.
.
Now I need to see is there everything OK with windows vital services. FSS tool can tell me that.
Please download Farbar Service Scanner (FSS) and run it on the computer with the issue.
[*] Make sure that all options are checked.
[*] Press “Scan”.
[] It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
[] Please attach FSS.txt log to your reply.
.
.
And at the end, we shall use anather Farbar tools named MiniToolBox. This tool is specialized for ‘internet’ problem diagnostic.
Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
[]Flush DNS
[]Reset IE Proxy Settings
[]Report FF Proxy Settings
[]Reset FF Proxy Settings
[]List content of Hosts
[]List IP configuration
[]List Winsock Entries
[]List last 10 Event Viewer log
[]List Installed Programs
[]List Devices
[]List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
[]List Minidump Files
[*]List Restore Points
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Note: When using “Reset FF Proxy Settings” option Firefox should be closed.

Hi all,
Just bumping this up to see if anyone had any thoughts on fixing the internet after it’s turned off after a virus scan?
Thanks
