Last night I did a manual update of my avast program to version 131016-0. This updat has also downloaded a program called avast safezone - which I have no idea what this is. However, since restartin the computer after upgrading my internet explorer is not working unless I open an in private browsing session.
Any ideas???
Cheers
Adam
ratpit, I experienced the same problem today, except that I was upgrading from version 131016-0, not to it.
I came here looking for help. Unfortunately the generic boilerplate response above was pretty unhelpful. The poor guy was looking for help with a specific problem. So after searching the web and finding a solution I took the time to register here to post the solution for others who find themselves in this frustrating situation.
At this point you have to decide whether to stay with avast or not. This was a darned annoying problem, but otherwise I’ve had years of troublefree service from avast so I decided to reinstall. Just download the avast installer and install fresh. This worked and I’m up and running again, but something that made me unhappy with the reinstallation is that despite selecting the custom installation option, without asking me the installer:
Installed Google Chrome (not terrible, but I don’t need yet another browser).
Made Google Chrome my default browser (definitely not cool, avast).
I hope this helps you, ratpit, and any others who have this problem.
Thanks Hex-Bolt
I uninstalled Avast and tried a new install - the same thing occured. So I uninstalled again - now my internet works fine however when I try to do an ‘in private’ browsing session there are features such as some images and videos that will not appear. Additionally in ‘in private’ mode i cannot download flash player. I’ve downloaded flash player in a normal browsing session but again it does not work when i go ‘in private’ AARRGGHH!!!
So I’ve tried a system restore fromt he point that Avast did its update - the in private browser is working fine, including pics and video but once again my internet (IE8) is not responding.
After years of trouble free service What has Avast done to my system?
For me, internet explorer opened ok from all programs, so the fix to this was as easy as restarting the computer, unpinning explorer from the task bar and repinning it. i’ve opened and closed it several times from the task bar and it’s working again.
i emailed customer care about the google chrome issue, it downloaded automatically with the avast update in the middle of the night. i would like avast to stop inflicting this program on me, i don’t need another browser.
