I just downloaded and installed the free version and now firefox has crashed 3 times today.
I need to restart the computer everytime

Which is your Firefox version? Did it save a dump with more information about the crashing?
pretty sure it’s the latest version of firefox, I upgraded it a while back.
Is there a newer version that came out recently or somekind of firefox update?
Do I need to check the “Do not use chrome as Avast default browser”?

No the setting is not related to that (or Firefox).
