What’s going on with the GUI? It seems to keep getting smaller, with less accessible links, and to get anywhere the route seems to be getting more tortuous!
I had to search the forum before I could find where “Site Blocking” had been moved to; 3 windows and 4 clicks!
Come on now, what are you playing at? - if you tried a bit harder you could make it even more difficult to find.
And now also having to select the type of search via a drop-down menu. I don’t think I’m alone in hating drop-down menus.
Why did you have to change it? Change for the sake of change? It work perfectly well before; see at a glance and click the one you want.
Now extra clicks to get there. WHY???
OK so the window is getting smaller because you have to cater for users using stupid little screens on pads etc. But I, and many other people don’t – I have high definition desktop wide-screens. You can make the GUI as big as you like, I don’t care.
If someone at Avast gave more consideration to their customers and some thought to USABILITY instead of “graphic appeal” with loads of “artistic” wasted space and stupid oversized icons; the main page window’s efficiency could be easily improved by 500%.
And those 4 quick link buttons (1 being customisable).
Just 1customisable?? By making those icons just a tiny bit smaller, there could be 5 across and plenty of room for 2 more rows of buttons beneath.
But of course I’m sorry, I was forgetting, I shouldn’t suggest spoiling the GUI artists inspirational design ethics – blank space is so important in artistic design (yes that was sarcasm).
If, instead of trying to show-off or prove your technical competency, you considered your users, it would be an easy matter to add a button at the top to switch between condensed (as it is now) and larger format, where, (without any MAC-like hover drop down, across, drop down etc.) it would definitely be possible to provide one-click access to every component of the software. Now THAT is usability.
Because it does not require a user to navigate, only to not find what they were looking for, and then have cancel out back to the start and try again.
I understand the need for simplicity (for novice/technically impaired users), and the main components can still remain more obvious for those users – but everything else could also be reached by ONE CLICK access instead of the torturous unintuitive route of many of the components at present.
Frankly, if employees of mine designed a GUI like that which you now have, (although being technically able) but I would consider it a matter of gross incompetence – and they would quickly find themselves unemployed.
It’s an interface – not a work of art. For once in your lives, consider your customers!
