Any comments on this from Alwil?
I realize this was done with a more extensive test suite, and only 3 others have been tested with this new one so far, so comparison is more difficult, but still, this is a very low score :frowning:

A firewall is like a doorman who checks who comes into your house. Scoring high on the Matousec test involves having locks on the inside of all your doors and windows, a doorman on all doors who checks who goes out of your house and looks through all their pockets and bags before they go out. The avast! firewall was always intended to provide good protection from external attacks, and never intended to do well on leak tests.

I hope Avast will not start adding codes just to pass these leak tests.
Avast is an antivirus not a HIPS so it will not do well in Matousec tests.

Performing a Port Scan

We scanned the ports you requested, looking for any services or viruses that might be running on them, and did not find anything. This usually indicates that your firewall software or security software is functioning properly. If we had found open ports, we would have reported them to you so that you could adjust your firewall accordingly.

Avast IS & Windows Firewall.

In all the years using the Free ZoneAlarm I never got infected due to a firewall “leak”.

Anything that gets by a fw is the responsibility of avast! (antivirus &/or antispyware/antimalware).

The only HIPS I have is what little is in WinPatrol Plus. ;D

Interesting comment Frank, however for many of us using routers, the router internal F/W offers a reasonable amount of incoming protection if configured properly. My main purpose in having a software Firewall (Zone Alarm) is to prevent where possible unauthorized outgoing data from the computer. The incoming protection from the S/W firewall is a bonus, and the instances where it has pulled up something that the router firewall has not stopped is very few and far between.
