Internet won't work because of Avast

When i downloaded Avast my internet won’t work. When i disabled avast, the internet connection worked well. Why is that?

Probably because of your firewall, or another security suite you have installed, of had installed in the past.

What firewall do you have?

What anti-virus programs or security suites have you had installed in the past?

(Symantec is often the culprit- even after uninstalling it causes problems.)

As FWF asked, what is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access ?

  • If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.

As a temporary workaround, rather than disable avast, just Stop the Web Shield so that you at least have the fall back protection of the Standard Shield.

I have same problem, on installing avast on pc running vista - no internet unless I disable resident protection. Other antivirus was Mcafee.

Then also answer the other questions on firewall ?

Did you try checking if ashWebSv.exe was allowed, as suggested ?

You didn’t say which McAfee version, so here are the various tools:

2007 version - http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
