as you all know, the only official product for servers avast is currently offering is avast v4.8. This product is relatively old, and will be soon replaced by a completely new offering which is basically on par with our v6 consumer products.
We’re inviting everyone interested in giving our new server products a try.
There will be essentially two products:
Avast! File Server Security - contains protection for the server itself, and SharePoint
Avast! Email Server Security - contains protection for Exchange servers (2000-2010).
The products run on servers from Windows 2000 to Windows 2008 R2, 32-bit and 64-bit.
It is recommended to install these products from scratch. I.e. if you’re already using avast v4.8 on your server, better remove it first, reboot, and then install this product.
Please note that this is the “unmanaged” version of avast (i.e. with no remote management capabilities). A managed version of server protection will also be available, and will be offered as part of the Business Protection / Business Protection Plus suites (see the other forum board for details on that).
What about Avast 6.0 for Windows Home Server 2011? In an email I received from your sales department 10 days ago, I was told to look for a announcement about a Server edition of Avast and that Windows Home Server 2011 was to be a part of the announcement
Not the most helpful of answers! If a virus gets onto any connected system then it could replicate. I for one am still waiting for Avast to give a proper response about WHS2011.
Is there anyway I can convert my Avast Home Server licence so that it works on the new Avast Server 6 beta? I upgraded to Windows Home Server 2011 so am currently unable to use my licence so would like to use this new client.
It is in the page and is actually at selling but business protection rc and the beta if it is really released need to be unpinned and closed so its get down…
Maybe they should refer the products to file server and email server in their description same for business protection… Maybe they should verify also all of their redirect if it is correct or wrong.
What version will work with WHS V1 AND 2011? I don’t plan on updating to it as I have to check the specs because I am unsure how it’ll run on an HP MediaSmart ex485 which I currently have running V1. The business one talks about sharepoint and exchange, I have neither on my WHS and no plan to run them either. So what product will be for WHS V1 and 2011 owners? We all want specific clarification on WHAT product will be for WHS V1 and 2011 (whether it’s the same one or not). I have yet to find any posts on this or on avast site.
