hmm guys… I’m getting again and again the issue with all shields deactivated and a license expired message after each reboot, always fixed manually as I described above but it happens again.
I installed from scratch, so an upgrade problem can’t be the issue.
edit: the behavior shield doesn’t seem to do more than it use to (on W7/64), not that it’s just passive as Vlk described, but it still doesn’t scan anything, probably still no rule sets like before.
Installed and rebooted over 5.0.677 Free. Seems working properly.
Same here, but we can see some kind of details if you set BS options to “Ask”.
I already see 5 “Asking” dialogs, 3 are about Mozy, 1 is services.exe and 1 is CIS.
Anyway, is it strange that there is too many (75) “blocked” actions, though “Analyzed” events are only 16… still increasing…
After three attempts to install finally got it. I guess I didn’t get the correct install package the first two times. First time it reverted back to .677 after restart. Second time file shield and network shield did not work. Third time is a charm. I noticed that when you right click the avast ball that the menu disappears as it should now.
confirming the “ask mode” issue with the firewall >>> alert popups are freezing, i.e. you can’t allow or deny, just close the popup and switch back to auto-decide to start the program. No issue in auto-decide mode.
edit: unrelated, the only problem with the manual scan popup, if you didn’t make it sticky and if there was another alert (of any kind) in the meantime, you can’t get it back (the scan popup), and there’s still nothing saying in systray that a scan is running…
edit: Win7 taskbar button from Avast when minimized shows progress of manual scan, nice 8)
Well mine is presumably set to the default Allow, as I haven’t changed it. So I will set it to Ask and see how noisy it is. I think the problem with many of these they are at boot time or very shortly after so the Ask interface is going to be a bit of a pain in the a**.
After installing the beta AIS : the Win 7 Firewall is in a disabled mode (win 7 FW = off ).
This is opposed to the case when Ver 5.0.x was installed (Avast team recommended to leave the win 7 FW on).
Computer frozen completely with both Behav Shield on “ask” and on “allow”.
I just need to boot in Safe Mode to change anything. Nightmare (literally…).
I’m trying to restore the 5.0 version right now and uploading a manual dump.
I would like a feedback.
I though the Ask would be very noisy on boot as that is when most of what it does is checked, so it looks like that assumption was right, but even worse freezing the system. I have switched it back to allow, I hadn’t rebooted since I set it to Ask, so hopefully it won’t have the same problem.
