This build has now been replaced by v6.0.1352. Please see here for details.
Hi everyone,
we will soon be releasing a new program update of avast. As usual, we’re making it available for public testing a few days before the official release. The current version number is 6.0.1351.
This is hopefully going to be a smooth service release, mainly designed to fix some of the issues of the previous v6.0 builds. It also moves us a bit closer to the release of v7, slated for Q1 2012.
Here’s an [incomplete] list of the most important changes:
Script Shield now works with Google Chrome, all versions of Firefox and Acrobat Reader
Improvements in WebRep plugins (especially IE)
Stability improvements in aswSP.sys and the avast! sandbox
File system shield: improved on-close scanning
avast! Internet Security: new antispam engine
Web Shield and Script Shield: more options in the UI
The UI of the new version also includes the avast! Market, a new way to get info (and potentially try/buy) other avast products. This section can be hidden by disabling the avast! recommendation features in the avast! Community settings.
The content is not final yet - please take it like this.
You can either install from scratch, or over an existing installation of avast (any version).
Users of the previous beta can also use the normal in-product updater.
Downloading and will install over the top of 6.01289.
Install went fine, I did a custom install so as not to install the IM and P2P shields (don’t have those applications). On reboot registration went fine even clicking on the free version (which had been an issue in the forums recently).
I noticed that some of my settings and exclusions were gone, I can’t recale if this was the case in previous install over the top pre-release versions, this is a bit of a pain. The sooner avast get an export and import settings/configuration the better, this is something which we have been screaming for, for ages.
Attached images of the Options (pre-checked in the install) and my choices and the completion asked for reboot.
So you ran the installer on top of the previous version, but it didn’t show the usual “Update” command?
The screens you posted look more like from a new installation (from scratch).
I just installed over the old version and yes, I did not got the update button. The setup installed the new version over the old one and did not saved my settings either. Other than that, everything is working fine for now
Same here Vlk, the installer didn’t offer the update. However I just proceeded the installation and it went fine (at least from the current impression).
Nope, I downloaded the 6.0.1351/setup_av_free.exe file and ran it, but the only installation options I got at the start were default/express (or something like that, didn’t grab a screenshot) and Custom. Because I didn’t have P2P and IM installed I didn’t want the default install installing those, so I chose custom and proceeded and that is what I ended up with.
Same here too, although Japanese installation wizard seems the same to old one (no “Express” option).
P.S. And this is not so clear (I can’t remember), but it seems Google Chrome installation option is gone and Chrome is automatically installed… ??? :-\
No, it won’t, the decision whether to auto-sandbox the executed application (or to show the query) is done during the FileSystem Shield’s scan of that file.
I install it over the top and autosanbox don’t work. For example it can’t catch the autosandboxme tool. Also it forget many options(they returned to the default values).
