*** INTRODUCING: New pre-release build of avast [now 5.0.460] ***

Hands up… But it’s very surprising to me…

Any feedback on the keyboard controls?
(to start, press Alt)

Wondered how you got them ;D

Works fine on 7 64bit including keyboard shortcuts

just a correction, to compare apple to apple, I’m redoing it (with “select folder to scan”) with storing data for persistence cache activated (wasn’t checked last time and I thought it was) on the same folder (winsxs), so CPU now is 65~70°C … that still make a huge difference with before, more than acceptable now.

works fine with this letter system, I just tried it. Guess that’s for people having difficulties using the mouse, right ?.. (I’m not sarcastic, I really believe it’s meant that way)

The internal update to .454 seems to broke down virtualisation. It is simply not possible anymore to virtualise anything from the explorer - and the Avast! menu  I am going to try a repair, and if needed an install from scratch. I will report back …

Greetz, Red.

I have checked most of the keyboard controls and they are working very good, I like this since I like to use them very much in my computer…

confirming, virtualization is broken. No sandbox folder is created (I can see it with recovery software, scanning non-deleted files), no process appears virtualized in the avast interface when one is supposed to run :o

edit: the list of permanently virtualized programs in expert settings is broken too, it doesn’t retain anything.
edit: settings for the red frame and safe locations detection aren’t retained either

Repair + reboot doesn’t solve it.

Vlk, do you want me to try an install from scratch, or something else ?

Greetz, Red.

You can certainly try to reinstall. It seem to be working fine here on my two systems though (Vista and W7).
PK should be able to tell us more.

Thanks
Vlk

OK I’m going for a reinstall now. Will report back a bit later…

I can’t run processes virtualized under Vista either; did an upgrade. Right clicking or running from tab both don’t make it happen.

still broken after reinstalling from scratch, just like I described it in my last post above, with the exception that the two options (frame and locations) are retained now, but the list doesn’t retain anything, and the explorer command doesn’t work either.

Yep, I can confirm that Logos. An install from scratch of .454 doesn’t solve it either …

P.S. I am going to bed now. To Peter : If you need help ( logs from ProcessMonitor ? ) you can email me

Updated to .454…

Happened again…reported the vps was out of date, and then reported the same was correct, see images, taken within a few seconds of each other…

Some other things:

Vlk, any comments?

-Scott-

p.s. Yes I noticed I wrote 477 instead of 447 ;D

Thanks.

Keyboard control is just awesome :stuck_out_tongue:

80~85°C is very high. My quad CPU never gets over ~55°C at 100% load on all four cores.

Looks like you could use a better CPU cooler, or a better airflow through the cabinet - if there’s too hot in there even the best CPU cooler won’t doo much good. Could also be that the cooler isn’t mounted correctly.

+1

it’s a laptop

anyway I spoke too fast in my previous posts, and I spoke too fast twice ::slight_smile: don’t know what I was thinking of, writing to the persistence cache on or off didn’t mean much as the cache was already created from a previous full scan. Anyway there’s still a gain between 5 and 15 degrees compared to before (I can tell now because I had to reinstall AIS for other reasons - see posts above), and there’s still the possibility to run a full scan without writing data to the persistence cache at all and keep temps really low, which wasn’t obvious before either. Again I wouldn’t care if it wasn’t laptop, as there are so many ways to keep the temps low in a desktop PC (fans, water cooling etc…). I got the full scan running at the moment and on an area where it was showing 85°C it now shows 72°C, so, considering the type of hardware, I’m really satisfied now.

edit: adding…the max temp admitted on quad cores for instance (like a Q6600) is about 70°C. My mobile T3400 (dual-core) has a max temp of 100°C.
