The update has now been officially released as 5.0.507 (more info here).
Thanks to everyone who helped testing.
Hi *,
we’ll soon be releasing a new build of avast 5 Free/Pro/IS. As usual, we’re making the build available for public testing before it’s officially released (so far the version number is 5.0.504).
How to get it links removed
How to install it
Just run the setup executable (links above). You can either install it from scratch, or on top of an existing avast installation (installing over both 5.0.xxx or 4.8.yyy should be fine). A reboot will be required to complete the installation.
Also, if you’re already using the previous beta build 5.0.492 or 499, you can go to 5.0.504 by simply invoking the program update feature from within the avast GUI.
What’s new
Most notable improvements include:
scanning and virus chest features now accessible even from Windows Safe Mode
aswSP.sys: solved a minor stability issue (fixed duplicating of protected handles)
Pro AV / IS: solved file enumeration problem on FAT32 partitions
enhanced compatibility with various Winsock LSPs
various improvements in the avast! sandbox
improved cleaning of file infecting viruses
added compatibility with screen readers; avast! should now be reasonably accessible to visually impaired users
system files imported to the virus chest after upgrade from v4.8 are now removed
IS firewall: solved a problem related to VPN connections (Windows XP)
IS firewall: solved a problem related to Xbox360 media sharing
IS firewall: solved a potential BSOD condition when changing logical drive mappings
IS firewall: solved a potential crash when saving the packet rules
Pro AV / IS: solved a compatibility problem with PerfectDisk 11
Pro AV / IS: ashCmd.exe switch /@ should work again
minor improvements in the installer, especially when upgrading from avast v4.8
avast! Screen saver can be now configured via the screensaver properties dialog
minor fixes in the GUI
added Dutch, Portuguese (Portugal), Norwegian, Finnish, Slovenian, Turkish and Vietnamese language packs
And new in 5.0.504
Pro AV / IS: solved a compatibility issue with Acronis True Image
IS firewall: fixes for Internet Connection Sharing
IS firewall: Windows 2000 compatibility
IS firewall: solved a compatibility problem with Logitech Desktop Manager
installed, rebooted, searched the GUI a bit to see what’s new…firewall settings: first thing I noticed is that the “enter” key doesn’t work on the password dialog box, no big deal, I then wanted to open the packet rules interface, prompted for the password again (which is normal), noticed the interface was new edit: it was just resized…, but empty, no rules, and >>> CRASH of Avast ;D I got a minidump generated automatically by Avast + one I generated manually from Windows task manager. I’ll upload that to your ftp site and send you (VLK) the archive password by mail.
edit: sent… anyway after loging off and back in I couldn’t reproduce the issue, no crash anymore when opening the packet rules interface and it’s normally filled with entries. As to the password dialog box, hitting enter works if clicking another time to regain focus.
“real time shields” in the status bar details shows “on” even though some modules are off (deactivated by me).
ps:the banner above still behaves normally, ie alerts with a “fix now” prompt and a warning exclamation point on the tray icon, unless the related shields are un-ticked in the status bar settings.
I would say that there is no difference in that respect as that it to do with the various signatures used to detect fake AVs. The problem being there are so many different variants of these fake AV is it a game of catch up.
Thanks for your kindly update, anyway i just want to put new thread for some weird happened with my Win 7 Home Premium with AIS 5.0.462.
This morning it’s look at my device manager for avast! Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport #258 looked like error with something.
Here’s i attached the screenshoot as for your information.
