The update has now been officially released as 5.0.594.
Thanks to everyone who helped testing.
Hi *,
we’ll soon be releasing a new build of avast 5 Free/Pro/IS. As usual, we’re making the build available for public testing before it’s officially released (so far the version number is 5.0.590).
How to get it links removed
How to install it
Just run the setup executable (links above). You can either install it from scratch, or on top of an existing avast installation (installing over both 5.0.xxx or 4.8.yyy should be fine). Users from the previous beta build (5.0.584) can update directly by using the built-in Program update feature. A reboot will be required to complete the installation.
Also, if you’re already using the previous beta build 5.0.492 or 499, you can go to 5.0.504 by simply invoking the program update feature from within the avast GUI.
What’s new
Most notable improvements include:
improved interaction with Windows System Restore; namely, avast now auto-repairs itself when it detects a corrupted VPS due to a System Restore (or other reasons)
aswSP.sys: solved a minor stability issue
solved a problem related to inserting of the license files
added the activation codes feature
improvements in the avast! sandbox
solved a problem when avast was continuously slowing down (especially in conjunction with the screensaver)
performance improvements in the Behavior Shield
avast Screen saver now accessible even in 64-bit Windows Vista
stability improvement in aswTdi.sys (solved a compatibility problem with AVG)
IS firewall: solved a potential BSOD condition
various improvements in the avast! sandbox module
minor fixes in the GUI
added Catalan and Belarusian language packs
And new in v5.0.590:
solved intermittent hangs during full scan
added more logging in the service (should be useful to debug potential service crash issues)
Also AIS users are encouraged to test the Outlook toolbar, which underwent a big code review in order to ensure greater compatibility and foolproofing. Tested in house on versions 2000 - 2010
That module is still under development, which will be going on for a few more months. We shall announce more on that later (when it’s ready for testing). So please be patient and stay tuned.
Got Stuck during the scan, and wouldn’t finish, unknown if it i was way i had setup the custom scan or what–had it setup for scanning all files/packers, storing data in the cache since just reinstalled Avast 5 on that desktop–cleanly
(same custom scan is ran on all the other Desktops/laptops here though–weekly)
Did not Freeze up–finished the entire scan, was doing PC repair on other PC, so i wasn’t watching it as closely as before–all is well it appears now, now to finish up maintenance on Desktop 5, and transfer some hardware to Desktop PC 2
