Hey, the other day someone sent me a malicious link, which I was dumb enough to open. Avast blocked it immediately, I blocked the person that sent it, googled the site itself, and it turned out to be an IP grabber. So like… was my IP grabbed, or do I thank Avast on that one?

Good avast blocked it and you are out of harm’s way.
Grabbers in combination with anti-public lists can also be abused to compromise your mail account for instance.
Never use something that could be known to any outside party, change log-in particulars regularly or use 2FA.
Be aware of weak PHP and weak cgi etc.
