Irritating occurrence

I may be the only one to have experienced this,
but I’ve witnessed an interesting and somewhat
irritating side effect using Avast. Whenever it is
running, doing a virus check, I’ve noticed that any
commands carried out such as opening up a folder or whatever
remains on the screen. The only way I can get rid of this is to
right click and open up the menu, then close it.

The phenomenon is restricted to Avast only. No other
program does this.

If any one else experiences this, I’d be interested to know.

It may be that I have not fully understood the problem … however I am not aware of the irritation you report.

Can you see if you can give a more precise description?

A couple of other questions too.

What is your operating system?
What version of avast are you using?
Did you have a previous antivirus product and, if you did, how was it removed?

What is your firewall ?

There is a work around to these graphical artefacts remnants of menus, etc. that you could give a try.

Graphics glitches, etc. - Edit avast4.ini using Notepad [Common] section, add the following line to the section SunbeltKPFHack=2, save the file, you will be prompted by the avast! Self-defence module if this is OK answer Yes.

Whilst this is primarily for Sunbelt or Kerio Personal Firewalls it may well work even if you don’t use either of these firewalls. Also see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=37609.msg315764#msg315764

I have only had this once and it was as a result of a stalled process (not avast) in the task manager and once I used the End Process button, no more remnants.

Also see, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=40840.msg342656#msg342656 which mentions McAfee Site Advisor causing similar issues with avast.
