Please, is Avast 4.7-1001 version the beta one? Maybe it is why I’m getting problems. Nothing is working in my avast. The only window able to be open is the resident protection one, even though starting it does not work. A little red forbidden sign is over the a-ball tray icon. When trying to start the main program there comes the following error message: ‘The system cannot open the device or file specified “avast! Splash Screen” cannot load configuration’. Clicking ok a following message comes telling ‘The system cannot open the device or file specified "avast! Simple User Interface cannot load configuration.’
I’m running windows xp and have already repaired the installation, also having re-downloaded and re-installed the program. Database is = SQLT in avast4.ini file, and Services configurations is taugh to be correct, but none of these have solved the problem.
I have uninstalled avg to instal Avast and so I’m now without protection. Please help!
No 4.7.1001 is the regular release, prior to that a beta trial was run and as a result of that a regular release Version 4.7.986 April 18, 2007, this threw up some issues culminating in 4.7.1001.
The Red Circle and Bar over the avast icon is often associated with another AV installed or remnants of a poor uninstall.
Try this right click the avast icon, select Program Settings, Troubleshooting, and check ‘Delay loading of avast! services after other system services’ and see if that helps with the red circle.
The database=SQLT is correct this has been the new database for some time now.
You could try this, disable skinning in avast - that may solve the problem at least letting you get into the SUI. Program Settings, Common, and uncheck any option with skins mentioned (see image, avast-no-skin). .
If you are unable to access the above you can do this manually. To do that, open the file \data\avast4.ini, look up the [UserInterface] section, and add the following entry: StartWithSkin=0
Oh my boys… How can I tell you this? Things seem to be getting tough and I will get really frustrated if my computer will not be able to use Avast!
Sorry, but both of your kind advices haven’t changed the problem in anything I could observe. I did followed each and all steps. And after reinstalling form scratch, I did the settings changes again, but everything remained as before…
And I forgot to tell but after uninstalling avg and before installing Avast for the first time, I have scanned my two HDs by the online Panda antivirus service. One virus found and desinfected. Others were just cookies which I have subsequently exterminated with Ccleaner.
My mouse pointer is (as was already) also freezing here and there… Jeezzz!
Please don’t ask me to format my disks, boys, or next you will find me at the hospital… :-*
Avg sometimes leaves a little of it’s self behind. Have you checked their site for a removal tool/manual uninstall steps. I can’t remember which method is availible, it’s been awhile since I uninstalled avg from a computer.
