just a simple question is the ADNM software only available for paid users?
i would like to mirror the updates I download for my LAN users; all users have Avast5.
at the moment each client connect to internet and download update, I’d prefer if one user could update and then all other users can use that update instead of downloading the same update again.
I cannot cache my updates at the moment…(ti save bandwidth).
any hints?
I hope I can use the new ADNM for Avast 5 on the free products…
Yes I have a proxy server (Endian 2.3 community, using Squid).
You are also correct that each client logs on to a dynamic IP for updates, so my cache is always being missed - and I have 30+ workstations.
Its a hassle because these take a fair bit of bandwidth and bandwidth is very limited in my corner of the Deep Blue Pacific Ocean…
I need a squid (linux) guru to help me…
I was looking at IPCOP Update accelerator but cannot port it across to Endian Linux code looks like an alien language to me…
PS: good luck to the dutch for the world cup…
although I am backing spain
i had an idea, but since your backing spain, i wont tell now
(just kidding, as soon as i figured my idea out completely i will tell it here)
EDIT:
i was thinking: in the avast5 installation directory there is a setup directory.
in this directory there are 2 files: servers.def and servers.def.lkg
these 2 files are identical for content and contain all the servers that the client can contact.
you could TRY to edit the files so that only a couple servers are in the list and the same on all clients
disadvantages:
im not sure if the running installed avast uses that file for updating
when there is an update of the program (or possibly even the virus definitions itself) the “hacked” file will probably be overwritten
its not sure avast will be able to update again if the files are changed. the end of the file suggests there are hashes used to verify the
file authenticity. Afterall… when you edit the server location then you could add your own server which could contain evil updates if u know what i mean…
(maybe this results in the need to reinstall avast on the station you try it on)
yeah I have had a look at the server files…my system does not even let me change that file…it keeps reverting back to old config, thats even wehn i disable the Behavior guard.
No biggie - Looks like I will have to try and sort it out on my squid server…I am not the that flash in a linux environment and have been looking for some references online looks like I will have to dabble in that. I am pretty sure there is a way to redirect Avast from my own Squid server(i have seen it used with the IPCOP distro). If I can sort it out I’ll post it up in here (but don’t hold your breathe for it)
too bad on the Finals…some bad calls by the ref kinda spoiled the spectacle - Robbin was clearly fouled by Puyol when he just had the keeper to beat…
We actually had a partial eclipse just before the game started, that was pretty extraordinary.
you mean Robben Robin didnt do to much (like every other match this tournament);…
i wont say anything about the bribed referee and the other 3 officials… but they made the goal possible instead of the players of spain…
goodluck with your search for a sollution
maybe you can file a request to be able to set prefered servers in Avast for updating… this way avast tries those servers first and then the rest
Yeah Robben…my bad
He had that one shot when he broke through last line, i thought he had the keeper beat…good save thou.
I was more of a neutral spectator thou, I support NZ - at least we drew all our games and finished higher then Italy ;D
thanks for the suggestion I’ll try and file that request, good idea.
